Food was completely bland. I was sitting there waiting for my order, reading other reviews, I saw a couple bland food reviews I was hoping maybe it wasn't true, but nope, it's True. I ordered Chorizo con Huevo it came with rice and beans which were also All Bland. The chorizo did not even taste like chorizo I'm not sure what they served, It's almost as if they were serving Vegan chorizo. It was a bit watery for some reason. There was nothing like a sauce that would have made it watery. I DEFINITELY will Not return, & thats unfortunate because I had moderate hopes for the place, it looked promising. I know it has some good reviews to, not sure what they ate but my meal was not it. I Could have made better chorizo con huevo at home and I Definitely Should have. $18 for the bland food with a cup of coffee. The coffee was fine, but you can't really get coffee wrong. Service was great 👍 the food just sucked. I really considered just walking out, but I paid just because I felt bad for the people. Long story short, Bland & NOT worth the price in that state. I wouldn't have given it to a homeless person. It was that bland. The cheese also wasn't melted. Not that I care, but I saw other reviews with the same complaint. I guess it's true this is how my plate arrived. The egg in my chorizo was overcooked as well.

Classic neighborhood breakfast spot. Came on a Saturday around 8:30 AM, party of 2. They have a small parking lot behind the restaurant! If you can’t find parking there, you can park on the street, but you do pay! They have two entrances, one where the parking lot is and the second where the front of the cafe is near the corner. The door by the parking lot has beautiful art of the Chicago skyline. We we’re greeted right away and told to pick a table that has a number on it. It is a small cafe, but they do have a decent amount of tables inside and outside that are somewhat spread out. It looked like as well that they had outdoor dining. They did have signs to promote wearing a mask posted outside and inside. All staff, including the cooks had on mask too. They had markings on some tables that the table is not available to sit at. Our waitress was very friendly. She kept checking on us and always made sure my coffee was filled to the top. The portions are big, great prices, fluffy pancakes, and they have good orange juice. I loved how they plated the pancakes with fruit! In regards to the pandemic, just for others to know, the condiments on the tables (ketchup, hot sauce, sugar, etc.) are shared.

Food was good, nice small cozy place and the waitresses were nice. The only thing is to come with patience and not be that hungry because while they are incredibly nice, they are also extremely slow to serve you. The bulk of our time here was the waiting for food, beverages not being refilled and waiting for the check and a to-go box was insanely long. I wouldn't come again just because it was so slow but if you have that patience then it's a great spot for ya. Also, expensive. My husband and I, it was over 60 dollars just for us to enjoy breakfast at a snails pace.

I had 2-3 enjoyable experiences until my last visit a week ago. To begin, the waitress asked me if I wanted hash browns with my skillet. I said no because it comes with potatoes. She comes back with slimey watery veggies (cooked spinach, mushroom & tomato) and 2 slimey watery eggs set right on top! When I saw all that slime and no potatoes, I just set the plate in the center of the table and ate the side order of fruit I ordered. She came back to "check on us" about 20 minutes later. I told her I wasnt eating that nasty watery food she brought me. She says "Thats how you asked for the eggs." My daughter told her she had ordered them over easy, but I asked for them over hard. So she takes the food, says she wont charge it, and never comes back! No drink refills, no check/bill, no to go box, nothing. I sat there silently waiting for 30 MORE mins with my daughter and 7 year old grandkid. After a few tables that came in after me paid and left, I had had enough. I had to get up and stand at the register, and she still found a way to continue to throw me shade! I'm standing there just waiting... when the the register phone begins ringing. Thats when our waitress finally stopped clearing tables and ran over to take the call! I was (& still am) flabbergasted. I silently waited some more- well, she apparently rang me up in the process and blurted out a total. I told her my daughter needed water and a to go box first. Then I asked to SEE the bill. She charged me for the food I sent back and refused to take it off, so we went back and forth until the cook interviened. Yes- she tried to bully me into paying for food I DID NOT order OR eat. My biggest regret is not recording this entire episode of BAD BABYSITTERS SERVING BREAKFAST. I didn't take a single bite of those nasty sloppy uncooked eggs- I was not going to pay for them! Moreover, she didn't even ask if I wanted something else to eat. AND IT KEEPS GOING! The cook (maybe owner/manager too?) took over. He said he'd take it off, gave me a new total, and then tried to keep 10 dollars of my change!! He must have thought I wasn't watching his hands count my change.. well I was!! I had to argue with him too and he eventually gave me the right change... can you say shady? That entire experience from start to finish was horrible. He was upset about giving me the money and pointed at my daughter and told her she had come in previously and complained about the chicken too. She has NEVER ordered anything but a skillet here. But my other daughter (mom of the grandbaby) used to live 1 block away. So I told her what happened. Low and behold she was served undercooked chicken and sent it back.. over 6 months ago! After speaking to her, I know the bad service was intentional- WRONG PERSON! Unsurprisingly, he sent us off saying he doesn't care if we don't come back and told me to go ahead a give him a bad review.. as he waved us away. Well.. there's your bad review Mr. Shady undercooking THIEF! Stop babysitting in your establishment and treat your customers right!! Maybe if you paid attention to the business you wouldn't get raw food sent back. These prople are unprofessional and were...

This place is amazing! Such a hidden gem in the neighborhood! I’ve lived in the area my whole life, but was looking for a quick breakfast near me and saw it online, so I figured I’d check it out. First of all, this place is adorable and easily accessible! There was tons of parking right outside in front. The atmosphere is bright with lots of light, plants, and adorably decorated. It’s clean and bright. There was a good amount of people inside but still tons of space so I got seated right away. The tables and chairs and clean and comfortable. I was immediately greeted with a smile and menu upon sitting down, which was so nice since I was dining alone. Several staff members with great, positive attitudes checked on me, multiple times, throughout my meal. Honestly the whole staff that was there today hustled seamlessly as a team to make sure I had a great experience, from start to finish (i.e. coming quickly to clear plates). I even heard the cooks thank people and say bye to them as they left. Then the food! I wasn’t expecting anything exceptional, just a decent breakfast— but this was seriously one of the best skillets I’ve ever had. I love a good skillet and I had a very specific order, with some modifications. They made sure to read the order back to me to make sure it was correct, and the cooking team executed perfectly!!! The hash browns and veggies were perfectly crispy/caramelized as I ordered well-done, they personalized the cheese to my preferences (cheddar), and cooked the veggies and eggs perfectly, too. The food came out wonderfully hot, but not too hot, so I could eat and enjoy my food right away! This was a great experience to start my day, and I will be coming back again, and telling everyone in the neighborhood about it. Thanks, City Cafe! My only regret is that I didn’t come...
