There are so many things that go into providing a quality experience when you are responsible for running a restaurant and I know this well from professional experience. There are an infinitely large number of things that can " go wrong" to undermine the successful service of just one table that it really can be overwhelming. When sitting down at a new restaurant I immediately can't help but gage the efforts made to minimize the chances of these things happening. In the case of Sapori Napoletani, there is just so VERY little that the staff has to work with; this restaurant is located in a strip mall which has "one of those parking lots" that you should just avoid and park on the street... it is as narrow as a 500 year old Italian street. The restaurant has committed to open air seating on a jetty into the lot as well as on the rather narrow sidewalk. Traffic is an issue. The inside is narrow as well. Our waiter did well to tend to us and the other table seated near us on "the jetty" but was unable to buffer my wife and me from the utterly silly first date talk happening at that other table. One of those things... impossible to control by the establishment but was definitely not helping us relax and visit without any kids around to bother us. Humorous in a slasher flick sort of way but real life. To the menu: mainly personal pizza, panini and pasta. None of it typical in any regard at all. I will absolutely admit that THESE Italians probably really are Italian and know that it may be a bit risky to not offer you the Olive Garden watered-down BS that most of America wants to be force fed and they don't care and are looking for you if you don't care either. Interesting pizza; a filling meal without being a ton of greasy cheese but actual food instead. All handmade made and made me want to run into the kitchen to see who was really in there, ya know? Pasta servings sane, not Family Style 5 lb bowl for one thank God. I don't know but pasta seemed freshly made as well. Insalata Della Casa very nice. Martini delivered without olives (which I did not actually request but wasn't asked about). I jokingly chided the waiter and he promptly made up for it with two skewers of unlucky martini olives. All the while I was sure that if we found ourselves in some kind of trouble on the jetty in the parking lot, he could wait all the tables in the joint AND kill bad guys all at the same time. I requested house made pistachio gelato and he pointed at the kid at the other table with his eyes and let me know he had just served the last sellable bit loudly enough to entertain the hell out of us and straighten the kid's s back out which entertained us more. He brought me the best hazelnut gelato I have eaten in America. We gave him just over a c- note and...
Read moreWe decided to meet up with friends at Sapori Napoletani Pizzeria after hearing good things about it, but it was a huge disappointment. We made a reservation in advance, but when we arrived, we had to wait 10 minutes to be seated, even though plenty of tables were empty. Then it took another 10 minutes just to take our order.
The service was terrible. The blonde lady who served us was unfriendly and unwelcoming, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. We ordered pizza and calamari, and neither dish had any flavor or seasoning—everything was just bland and lacking.
When we were finished, we asked for the check, and she told us it would be right away. Instead, she served another table and took payment from another table. After waiting 20 minutes, we had to remind her that we were still waiting.
The whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. The food was bad, the service was worse, and I will never be coming back. Not...
Read moreHighly overrated and only go for the pizza if living in the area. It is NOT an Italian trattoria. No self respecting nonna would serve tasteless, bland pollo con funghi swimming in a runny, oily cream sauce. The funghi ravioli were not any better also in a cream sauce with some of the mushroom filling gone from the pasta pocket. The lasagna is nothing to rave about. The calamari is good but the fried zucchini blossoms are downright awful, a soggy, greasy mess probably frozen and deep fried. As for desserts, the filling in the cannoli is dense and the shell is hard as a rock (probably frozen). Shame on Check Please for showcasing this below average restaurant. Service was pleasant but the ambiance is that of a sports bar with TV screens everywhere and certainly not an Italian trattoria. No...
