Checked out The Garage last night with my gal, pretty cool spot from first impressions!
They have a lower level that seats plenty with a garage door style opening right up front. But one of the many highlights of this place was the ROOFTOP!
It was a busy evening and we only had to wait about 15 minutes, meanwhile we were seated at a table inside on the second floor and greeted by our server while we were waiting for a table outside. Very chill atmosphere.
They offer a draft beer list, a TON of bottled/canned beers, and had an extensive mixed drink menu. Seeing that it was national Mojito day, I tried out their Mojito’s and was not disappointed, ended up having a few actually.
Before I go on and rave about the food, I should mention that is can be a little loud (we had a table of kids beside us 🙄), and SMOKING is permitted at the tables for those whom it may concern. But there was plenty of great air flow so I barely noticed the smoke. The ambient lighting above was great as the sun was setting off in the distance.
NOW, onto the food, they had quite the array of bar food favorites, Tex mex entrees, and some outliers. We had their giant pretzel for an app, apparently it serves 4, my date and I were starving and devoured it easily. They have an option of three dips (bacon honey mustard, queso blanco, or beer cheese). While all three were delicious, the beer cheese was by the best in my opinion. In fact it’s the best damn beer cheese I have yet to try!
For entrees, I ordered the Shrimp Po’boy, and damn was it good! Generous portions of shrimp were stuffed in the sandwhich and the sauce they used really just made the flavor pop! I could have eaten 2 if I hadn’t just eaten all that pretzel. My date got the Carmella which I believe was a pulled chicken sandwich with bacon and Gouda.
Overall a great place to enjoy a gorgeous summer evening in chicago with great drinks and even greater food in a...
Read moreWill not deny the ridiculously incredible sandwiches of this place. In fact I have been coming here for the past 3 years per the recommendation of my wife's friends 93 year old grandma. Well done Gma. Great little outdoor rooftop as well. My wife and I decided that it would be fun to play shuffle board one night(this night). In between the game, a glass broke, completely on accident. Although I was a little upset at my wife, I felt more compelled to speak with the gentleman who angrily came and told us our game was done with no other words as if we were some youthful college nobodies. Thank you OWNER for thinking we were so young. Cheers to you. I respectfully spoke with the bartender explaining that it was an accident, asking for forgiveness... who ended up being the owner only to tell us we had to leave and to close us out. Yes, there are blank spaces between the story but I can tell you I spoke respectfully to the staff (especially since both of my brothers work in lettuce entertain you restaurants.) and they wholeheartedly agreed with me. I am not one to step on anyone's toes and I apologize if I did anything wrong...at all. I am sad that I once loved this place and recommended it as well, but I feel at this point since the owner, both of them basically told me there is no place for me and said they would not care if I have been going there for years, to suck it. Then I must say that I can not recommend this place. In the end, my 5 foot wife was scared to close out her check because she saw the way the owners handled the last situation. I'll give it to them...he was very sincere when handling her situation.... Garage, I hope that the attitude changes, I expect that you can serve who you want but wish this situation was handled differently. I am sure you will read this and say that guy sucked or group sucked but so hope out of respect, you won't.
Cheers and wish...
Read moreIf I could give a zero, I would. Very very very disappointed with the staff and management at this establishment. Came in to get drinks and was told there was a wait for 1.5 hours for food because the kitchen was backed up. Totally understandable. We asked if we could be seated at an open table for drinks by the bar and we were told no there was a party of 11 coming in to sit at a table top of four. I called after being turned away to see what the wait was for drinks and was told there was a table available for drinks. (Mind you. This is 30 seconds after I walked out.) great. I don’t know why you turned away paying customers but that’s on you for whatever reason. I asked to speak to a manager and was greeted abruptly and rudely by someone else. I explained how we were turned away with an open table JUST FOR DRINKS. She kept reiterating the kitchen being closed due to being understaffed and I reminded her we were simply trying to get drinks and didn’t understand why we were turned away. At the end of the call, she stated: “if this is your main concern, I have bigger problems to worry about” and then proceeded to hang up on me. Kudos to the owner, staff and management at this place. It’s a shame you guys think you can get away with this kind...
