Bones Backstreet BBQ Jemison — Restaurant in Jemison

The first thing I look for whenever I go to a bbq restaurant is the smoke coming from the building. This place had none. The layout of the restaurant was very nice and appeared very clean. I noticed when I walked in that there was no smell of food cooking. No indications that you were walking into a bbq place. That's always my first red flag that the food might not be so great. The baked beans were just a can if van de camps with extra brown sugar added. The sauce is another indicator of how good the food will be. It was very disappointing. First off, it was the color of Louisiana hot sauce. It was very vinegary, and had some kind of offsetting ingredient that was not very complimenting to the taste. The coleslaw was bland and the bbq chicken was seasonless and tough. Neither the bbq chicken nor the slab of ribs had an inkling of smoke flavor to it. The ribs were tender but very vinegary. I was under the impression that the ribs had been boiled and then baked in an oven because it lacked alot in flavor. I am shocked to know that this place was voted #1 in the Jemison area but I attribute that to not having alot of competition. You have no IDEA how bad I hate to write this review, it really bothers me to the core.

Three of my last meals have been horrible, the first being bad the last being disgusting.

I ordered ribs on 8/25/22 to go, and after waiting 35 minutes my order came up.

After getting home I opened them up and at first glance I saw the meat didn't look right, it was pale and almost white, I said ok, let's just try one. I pick the bone up and immediately the meat falls off tender, not a bad sign. I pick the pork up and and it feels soft and mushy, not a good sign, not at all. To me that tells me the ribs were frozen when they were not brought down to room temperature and the meat soured. I smell, another bad sign, no smell...AT ALL, meaning you can't even smell seasoning. In my experience this is one of two things and I'm siding on the latter here, they were under seasoned or thawed in boiling water or microwaved in the plastic they were frozen in.

I normally give out great reviews but only if they've earned it! However my last visit to this establishment I ordered only vegetables for 2 people. However, half of the vegetables in my $27 dollar order were given to me in refrigerator cold containers. The Mac & cheese and the mashed potatoes were both cold! Anyways i was very disappointed because I wasn't going home...my plan was to eat my take out dinner in my car on the way to an event. This has never happened before ;but to assure that it doesn't happen again , I will be checking my order immediately before I leave the restaurant! I can't tolerate when restaurants slack up or cut corners ! If I received excellent service on my first visit then I expect to still receive that level of service and quality in the food as well on every vist or it will...
