Every person has a different taste and preference of things. This was our first time coming here after hearing tons of good things. I had the french onion soup which was pretty good! I also had the meatloaf and it just wasn't for me or my taste. I will say this, you can absolutely tell that someone or someones take 100% pride in their work and what they want to serve. The presentation of everything was fantastic. Why didn't I speak up about my meal some of you may ask. Because this was not a them issue, this was a personal preference issue so it's no fault of theirs. The reason for my middle of the road review was a few misunderstanding of prices perhaps on my end. For the meals it was to my understanding by reading that soup was a side choice. We were told it came in crocks but I'll be honest, I didn't know what that meant. I then saw the upcharges for both soups. I also noticed that my bill originally came to the table of 61.43, when my card was ran my new total was 63 and some change. Is there an up charge for debit cards and if there is I didn't see that anywhere. Anyways I am happy for this place and hearing all of the positive reviews but just remember that though your taste preference might be different, there's never a reason to bash those hardworking people in the service industry. I worked at a restaurant for 15 years!
Update I changed my stars rating. Dana you are very respectful and helpful with your explanations. I understand the oversight on my part and for that I apologize, you can't help that some of your customers such as myself don't take the time to read certain things. I actually knew what I was going to order before coming in haha. I think your crew did an amazing job and I honestly don't blame them, I blame myself. I am looking forward to trying other things. I also understand the regulars crowd, the having their order prepared as soon as they sit down type. Your professionalism and customer service is appreciated...
Read moreFranklin Street Bar & Grill is my go-to when I don’t feel like cooking. No second-guessing, no scrolling through menus, I just head there because I know the food is going to be solid every time. It’s one of those rare places where everything just works. Good food, good service, and a laid-back, welcoming vibe that keeps me coming back.
Now, let’s talk about the lobster roll because this one is special. They don’t have it all the time, only on select Saturdays, but if you’re lucky enough to catch it, do not skip it. I’ve had lobster rolls all over, in Maine, Boston, and everywhere in between, and this one is insanely good. Fresh, buttery, loaded with real lobster, and perfectly seasoned. And the price is unreal. You get two lobster rolls for the price of one anywhere else. They could easily charge double, and I’d still order it. It’s that good.
Then there’s the French onion soup, which completely blew me away. I’ve had it in Paris, France, where it’s supposed to be the best of the best, and somehow, Franklin Street’s version beats them all. The broth is rich and full of deep, slow-cooked flavor, the onions are perfectly caramelized, the cheese is thick and bubbling over, and the crouton soaks up everything just right. It’s absolute perfection. If they served this in France, it would put half the cafés in Paris out of business.
The menu is solid across the board, so whether I’m in the mood for a burger, a steak, or just a drink and something simple, I know I’m going to leave happy. The portions are generous, the prices are more than fair, and the service is always on point. It’s the kind of place where you never feel like just another customer. They actually care about what they’re doing, and it shows.
If you’re anywhere near Johnstown, stop debating where to eat and just go here. If it’s a Saturday and they’ve got the lobster roll,...
Read moreIf you’ve read my other reviews this one is no different, it highlights the good and bad. For the record we had breakfast.
First the good, good portion sizes, good coffee, and reasonable prices. The biscuit gravy was solid and the rye bread slices were huge. Tried the homemade cinnamon roll and it wasn’t bad, had an orange version which was wild. Never had an orange cinnamon roll before but it worked well.
Now the bad, wait time was horrendous. Over an hour wait and we were told they could only enter half of our order, we had a party of 12. Slow refills and food came out in stages. They had a solid cadre of wait staff, so I’m blaming the kitchen all the way for the delays. Some food was very salty (chicken fried steak and scrapple) and others bland (hash browns). Two people ordered homefries and got hash browns and others had their eggs messed up.
Overall it’s a 50/50 score, would I go again? Maybe but not anytime soon. Not the worst I’ve had but not the...
