The Phoenix Tavern — Restaurant in Johnstown

I dont even want to give this 1 star. after trying the chicken balls at Thunder in the Valley, we thought this would be a great place, since the balls were delicious. This was the worst restaurant I have eaten at in a LONG time. the waitress was not very pleasant. she barely interacted at all and acted like we were a hassle. There were 5 of us, our food came out one at a time, with at least 5 mins in between each. Ive never had almost a half an hour in between the first person and last person getting their meals. After finally being served my steak sandwich, last, I took one bite.. first it looked like it was from a frozen pack of steakums, second, I was appalled by the flavor. It made me sick to my stomach. i am unsure if it was spoiled or what, but it didnt even taste like a spice, or beef for that matter. it just tasted disgusting. I returned it and didnt want to even try anything after that, it made me lose my appetite. The fish and chips appeared to be frozen fish sticks which also had a funny flavor. (try serving a real fish) The wings were literally in a soup of sauce with the ones on the bottom actually cold to the touch (had to cover the bad flavor somehow I guess). another in the group had the chicken parm, which he couldn't even get through half of it because of the horrible flavor. After 10 minutes of not even getting menus, my family was getting up to leave when menus were finally brought over and drink orders were taken. We ordered simple meals. My mother ordered a small salad, my brother ordered 12 wings, and I ordered the special of the day which was chili. My chili was brought out first after about 40 minutes of waiting. I had plenty of time to finish my meal before my mom's SIDE SALAD was brought out 30 minutes later. I write this as I still wait for my brother's wings to be delivered. The waitress never acknowledged that our food took so long. If the waitress would have apologized or a manager would have come over to explain what took so long, it would probably be forgiven, but they...

We walked in through the bar and felt like outsiders... By the time we finished our meal, we were cutting up with the wait staff and warmly welcomed back. Our meals were great, service was great!

I need to add- as I was people watching, there were 3 tables with older couples. Each one of them ordered dessert. I rarely have room when I get to the end of my meal but..... Old folks are a wealth of information and if they weren't skipping dessert, neither was I!!! Get the gob cake, I've been recommending it...
