Granny's sign stands out clearly above the roadway and is easy to find. Plenty of parking, even if you're driving a big RV.. sit in the parking lot a little while and you'll notice a steady flow of locals. Good wheelchair access. They let me pick my own booth. I couldn't help noticing the numerous and I mean numerous Awards locally and regionally which Granny's has gathered. For her food for her atmosphere and for her coffee. Fresh roasted and ground drip coffee was excellent. If I don't add anything to it it's good strong coffee. And they gave me the whole pot. I believe the local brag is good comfort food. And that it is. the menu is diverse and they serve breakfast lunch and dinner whenever you want it your schedule not theirs. Also a reasonable sampling of the menu on their seniors menu. I chose the catfish dinner. With sides of buttered corn and macaroni and cheese. Two huge dinner rolls came with plenty of butter. Gooseberry pie was the dessert selection for me. The catfish was plentiful and came in lightly breaded strips with absolutely no grease. Delicious. The small side bowls of corn and macaroni and cheese were just right size. The corn was good and the macaroni and cheese which I was assured was made on the premises was excellent. A big bowl of that mac and cheese would have made a terrific meal all on its own. The overall dinner was more than I could eat. Consumed the side dishes and ate about two-thirds of the catfish and save the rest for later. Glad I saved room for the terrific Gooseberry pie. I cut that in half and saved half for later. Barely managed to finish the half I chose to eat. The catfish I saved made a great leftover snack later that evening. And the half of Gooseberry pie was a good way to start the next day. The service was prompt and my server Celine was excellent. The family atmosphere in this roomy and air-conditioned place was very welcome. The day had been long and hot. This place is a true Travellers respite from the vicissitudes of the road. I see I used the word excellent several times in this review. Well it is excellent. It is clear to me "she" earned every one of...

EDIT: They offer a good variety of meals at reasonable prices, and I appreciate that they serve a full breakfast menu all day long, which is always delicious. Their roadside marquee is a nice touch, as it keeps customers informed about daily specials. Additionally, they remain one of the last restaurants in the area to offer a smoking section—a rarity in the face of city ordinances pushing for a complete ban.

However, during my most recent visit, I noticed their prices have increased, which was evident when the waitress handed me a new menu. As someone who frequently orders off the breakfast menu, I’ve encountered issues with the preparation of my eggs. Despite requesting scrambled and fluffy eggs, they’ve arrived at the table looking more like fried eggs. On multiple occasions, I’ve had to send them back to the kitchen to be redone, leaving me puzzled why such a simple request can't be met.

While most of the waitresses are friendly and accommodating, there are a few whose demeanor suggests they’d rather not be there, which can dampen the overall dining experience. Despite these drawbacks, the restaurant still offers some unique conveniences and remains a viable option...

I was excited to see the display of coffees, however was disappointed with my watered down coffee with no aroma. I ordered pancakes with a side of bacon, the waiter asked how I wanted my eggs. I said I only wanted pancakes and bacon he said that's okay he'll tell them no eggs. The combo was 4 dollars more than the individual items I wanted. He pushed the more expensive breakfast after making us wait 10 minutes for service and never returned to check on us. I get the pancakes and they look good, but the taste was lacking the syrup gave them flavor. And the fun started when I tried to cut them with my fork. I needed the knife and a sawing motion to cut the pancake. I thought it was just mine but I saw others at another table doing the same thing. I saw the appealing bacon calling to me but the cold oily taste was more than I could take. I was visiting the city for business and like to go to local diners instead of the name brand guys, however next time I'm in the area I will definitely go to the name...

I had the pleasure of stopping by Granny Shaffer's in Joplin, MO, for lunch while passing through, and I’m so glad I did. From start to finish, the experience was outstanding. I ordered The Ruben sandwich, okra, and a slice of rhubarb pie, every bite was spot-on. The okra was perfectly fried, crisp without being greasy. The Reuben came stacked with a generous helping of flavorful meat and was served on hearty, delicious bread. But the real standout? The rubarb pie a bsolutely phenomenal. Tart, sweet, and clearly homemade. Even the coffee was noteworthy, smooth, and freshly brewed. What really made the visit memorable was the service. My server, Anniston, was warm, attentive, and made me feel genuinely welcome, like I was a regular, not just someone passing through. Granny Shaffer’s is the kind of place you remember. I’ll be back every time I’m in Joplin, and I recommend you do the same. A true local treasure

Horrible management she almost crashed into my car leaving the parking lot jumping out of her vehicle while moving screaming and running at me while her car was rolling away runs after it to slam it in park just to try and throw things at me screaming scaring my kids making them cry after a lovely family meal I kept asking to speak to someone higher up and not only did she refuse but she hung up and said she was calling the cops however I have and I’m hoping the owners have more respect the their management I come here every often never had a problem I have no clue where she came from but it’s NOT making the company look good at all the police will be requesting the cameras

I've only been here twice because I live 4 and a half hours away. But this is where I eat whenever I am in Joplin. Absolutely delicious food, spot on service with a smile and affordable prices. There is nothing that I do not like about this restaurant! I highly recommend you eat here whether visiting or living in Joplin Missouri! BTW.. The catfish (Crunchy on the outside with lots of white layered catfish meat inside). The picture makes a catfish look small. Believe me when I say it is 8 oz of delicious fish! Onion rings (thinly battered and served with a light crunch that never gets soggy) are to die for! Order it now and thank me later! 🤣
