Read moreBomb food. Woman was very friendly and answered all my questions about the menu. I don’t make it out to this area often, so I wanted to make sure to order some of the right stuff, astronaut style.
She said the owner and cook of the food is from Guadalajara and that I should definitely get the OG status Torta Ahogada with Carnitas. It’s w a ton of pour over sauce, awesome bread that tasted like a cousin of sourdough maybe (I’m guessing you can’t easily source it in the US), pickled onions...
I’ve had a similar torta at the Chivo truck in Santa Ana. That Santa Ana one was spicier, but this La Chiva Rayara one was very tender w bits of crisp on the carnitas, and really delicious. I will make it a point to come back here multiple times when I visit Riverside!
My bro paid for the meal, and got a potato hard shelled dorado and a cheese one for each of us. Next time I’ll try their flan like dessert, a bean dorado, and I’ll get the same Guadalajara torta again!!!

This is a delicious, authentic restaurant and a hidden gem. I highly recommend the pierna and the tortas ahogadas de carnitas. The preparation is different than the typical cusine you may encounter as it comes from a more southern region of Mexico. This is a type of sandwich on special bread that gets dipped or drenched in a tomato sauce. The spice comes on the side but it kicks hard and tasty. It's hard to put down! The crunchy tacos are delicious as well. If you're a vegetarian, they have bean, potato, and cheese (requesón). These are the base tacos and can get stuff added on top....
