The Sitting Duck — Restaurant in Kalispell

I recently chose this restaurant as the place to take friends visiting from Australia, hoping to share a great dining experience. Unfortunately, it was an embarrassing and highly disappointing choice.

We arrived in the evening, specifically for dinner, and I was looking forward to enjoying a Caesar with the works. However, we were informed that the kitchen closes at 8 PM, so only fried food was available, along with a standard drink selection. The staff’s attitude and tone were far from friendly, inviting, or helpful, which set a negative tone for the evening.

When our food finally arrived, the server unceremoniously dropped off half of our order without a word, leaving us wondering if the rest of the food was coming. When I went to the bar to inquire, I was told that the bar and restaurant were separate and was pointed to another server, who quickly said they were working on it before turning away to chat with other staff.

The remaining food eventually arrived, including fish tacos that my son and I were sharing. I took a bite into my taco and there was a quarter-sized piece of hard, opaque plastic. I was livid, thinking of the danger this posed to my son, who could have choked on it.

I didn’t want to make a scene in front of our friends or other guests, so I quietly informed one of the servers. Instead of taking immediate responsibility, the server repeatedly asked what I wanted her to do to make things right, suggesting a new order. At that point, I had no desire to eat there again and simply requested a refund, which I am still waiting for.

To top it all off, I dislike the practice of tipping before service, especially after experiencing such poor service. In hindsight, I wish I could ask for all the tips back as well.

Overall, this experience was nothing short of terrible. I deeply regret not choosing a different place for what was supposed to be a pleasant evening with friends. I will never be returning to this restaurant.

The location and views were the only pleasant thing...

I can’t remember the last time I left a negative review, but this time in particular merits the time spent.

Summary: -Nasty food. Cold, burnt, gross. -Out of some stuff -returned a meal only to get something less gross but not good -nice view -cool interior and atmosphere

—————- The good ————— The seating arrangement, interior and view are wonderful.

The staff was polite and tried to accommodate complaints when returning a meal.

The staff was polite and eager to help but green (at least some of those I interacted with). They were learning and I was patient, so no gripe here.

The bad ———— Bar out of lemons Kitchen out of handburgers—

Dinner for six. After ordering and paying, someone came to the table and told they were out of handburgers. Members of my party gave them a replacement order, but I didn’t check to see if we were square $. ————- The ugly ————

All of us got cold, old fries. Replacement fries were the same.

Chicken tenders burned to a crisp with lots of carbon, inedible…I returned them; they replaced them with already cooked, less burned, but still gnarly having clearly been cooked with old oil.

Prime rib and ribeye sandwiches burned, kinda nasty, like old meat and ingredients. Both I and the other member of my party have stomach aches and feel kinda gross.

Happy to be on vacation and eating a meal together, we left with most of our meals partially eaten and picked at. Those who forced it down felt gross afterword. No food poisoning, just old ingredients, badly burned meat, and lots of shelf time, apparently.

Spent a lot of money on a family trip. The place looks like it could be insanely fun and a prime dinner place. Just gotta fix the kitchen, stocking, quality of food, and staff training and communication.

When taken in combination with the food quality and lack of provisioning, the kitchen and bar staff quirks makes more sense. If I had to guess, I’d say there is a leadership issue. It doesn’t feel like anyone’s actually...

I’m not sure what happened to this place, it used to be so great and we loved visiting. I don’t usually leave reviews for places but this was a pretty bad experience.

We stopped by for lunch and we won’t be going back anytime soon. They were out of one of the entrees, which was the main thing we went there to get. The fries came out cold and gross.

There were flies everywhere inside. I had to keep swatting them out of my partner’s hair while we were trying to eat we were sitting right across from the kitchen. It was annoying trying to keep the flies off our food long enough to finish eating. There was also a lady at the table behind us that was screaming the entire time we were there, but that’s no fault of the restaurant.

Arguably most concerning thing was that all the drinks we ordered had a weird chemical taste and smell. I tried getting a water and then a soda and had the same result with both, so best I could figure is that it has to do with the plastic cups they were using to serve the drinks. I actually had to go out to my car to get my own water bottle so I had something drinkable.

The staff was pleasant and friendly like usual. I really hope they turn this place around because it used to be our favorite spot in the area but it seems to be getting a lot of negative...
