Tanner's — Restaurant in Kansas City

My mother's 79th birthday was ruined last night by this restaurant. The food was terrible - 2 orders of chicken tenders were burnt/dry, one order inexplicably had 3 and the other had 6. My father said his burger was "awful" (his words), the fries were soggy, and the $3 side of guacamole I got was dark brown and inedible. Both of my brothers are in town for my mom's birthday and we were all so upset last night by how disgusting the $95 worth of food was that no one wanted to call or bring it back. I guarantee you I would have had very strong words for whichever staff member lowered themselves to assist me, especially given how I was treated when we picked up the food. The guy at the front desk was on the phone (sounded like a personal call) and after making eye contact with him he rolled his eyes at me and waved me away. My brother and I walked over to the bar, where the bartender barked at us to have a seat and when my brother said he called an order in, she snapped, "we don't DO call in orders!" After making sure to clarify I placed the order on the website, she told us to go wait by the door and someone would put the food on a bookshelf. We went outside to get away from everyone's hostility and when we came back in 5 min later, the bags of food were sitting on a shelf completely unattended, so I guess ita good no one stole it! This "restaurant" is a joke and ruined what was supposed to be a special night...

Five stars for the food, two stars for the service.

Great burgers and I love the chicken lips. On the former try the Frito burger; the latter take the menu's advice and go original style. Fries are ok (battered, perhaps?) But salvageable, especially if you dip then in the garlic aioli.

Service: of the four times I've been there, one was actually five star, so to average out to two stars you can do the math. I eat there alone, usually after work but before things get busy. I understand a party of four is preferable to a party of most of the time but if the choice is one or zero take the one.

And then please try not to ignore that one. Don't let their drink run dry, don't make them wait 8 minutes (two times it was 8 minutes!) before you even approach them about a drink in the first place, don't take their order twice and then come back 20 minutes after the initial order to tell them you're out of what they ordered. And please please please check on them more than once every 15 minutes or so. Please.

When the service is on its excellent - attentive but not hovering, recommendations, check in a timely fashion. But when it's BAD...or maybe if you're only...

Our initial server was terrible. She took our order for drinks & forgot that I ordered a Mountain Dew. She brought my husband's drink & I waited & waited & waited for mine, while she served several other guests. When she finally returned with my drink, she slid it on the table & kept going, without saying anything. We never got our appetizer. Only I got my food, when it did get served. She messed up our order completely. She never returned to our table to ask how we were doing. When we needed refills on our drinks, we had to walk up to the bar to get them. At one point, I observed our server up at the bar bawling. When it came time to pay our bill, she never brought us a ticket. We asked another server if we could please get our ticket because our server had never brought us one. That server told us that we should not be complaining to her about another server & was also reluctant to help us. We asked the bartender as a last resort, for our ticket. He finally helped us get our ticket so we could pay & leave. Not a pleasant experience dealing with such emotional servers with such attitudes. I would not...
