Wyandot Barbeque — Restaurant in Kansas City

We tried this place for the first time because it is close to home, and gets mixed reviews so we thought it was worth a shot. The restaurant itself was extremely dirty, which made me hesitant to eat any of the food to begin with; if what you see is that filthy, what does the kitchen look like? The woman at the front was pretty rude; "what do you want" is not really how I like to be asked for my order. We told her we had never been there before, so she pointed at the menus, told us to find a place to sit and then said we could come back up when we were ready. There is not a ton to choose from. I ordered a pork sandwich, I expected pulled pork, because that's normally what you get when you order pork from most BBQ joints...but instead I got dry sliced meat. My husband, father, and brother got sliced beef sandwiches that were also very dry. There is only one sauce, which is good if you like a more spicy sauce. I don't. So, I was essentially eating dry lunch meat in a filthy restaurant...not really worth the money. My other brother ordered a plain burger that was so overdone, he couldn't eat it. It was literally a doorstop. How do you mess up a hamburger that bad? This place seems to cater to the people that have been eating there for a long time, and don't care much for new patrons. If maybe the whole restaurant hadn't been disgusting my husband may have gone back to try the ribs since they get pretty good reviews, but that place hasn't been cleaned in years...at least it doesn't...

I had been to Wyandot Barbeque one time before and had the combo sandwich which was good, not outstanding, but good. Smoked flavor was pretty good and meat was tender which was what I look for. Went yesterday 5/16/2017 and ordered the same and it was bad. I did not say anything, which I should have but after leaving the more I thought about it the more irritated I became. The combo sandwich I ordered was beef and pork. There was only a slight smoked flavor, hardly noticable and incredibly dry. I kept dousing it with barbeque sauce, finely I took the meat off the bun and the pork was so white that I am not so sure it was not turkey breast but might have been pork loin which is hard to get tender and not dry. The beef was obviously beef roast. I had the dry stuff stuck in my teeth from trying to knaw on it and as I said there was no smoked flavor. They do a reasonable business, not anything outstanding like other places. I really don't want to repeat that experience personally. Give them a shot but good luck as there is no consistency and the meat I had had no good deep smoked flavor at all. The place is reasonably convenient to the Legends area where my kids live but I would rather drive miles down to Slaps now. About the same price with always good smoked flavor and they are very friendly. The cashier could hardly keep her eys off the tv soap opera while she took my order but she was efficient in her way. Came in around 8:15pm, for a quick To-go order. The shorter young lady was pleasant start to finish. The taller one, I didn't like her demeanor. She slap the receipt on the counter, saying, "Sign." I asked for a pen. She said, "It's right there." I did not see it under my keys. I informed her that as well. From the reviews, her attitude is normal. She needs to take hospitality training or not work customer service. If you do not like your job leave. Thank you to the shorter one for great customer service. The rib dinner was accurate and tasted good.

2024 My most recent visit. the food tasted much better. Very busy took time to order. The food is still filling and priced well. Idk if it was just a good day. I'll be checking that the food is constantly good.

2023 Entered through the back door. Right now, the front entrance is closed. The food is just okay! Some of the reviews say best in KC. In my opinion, this BBQ is at the bottom of the list. I rarely visit this location. They do serve big portions for fair pricing. The fries would be better if they cooked them longer and added seasoning. The BBQ sauce makes the fries taste better.
