I really liked the food at this restaurant. Every dish we got was amazing, which is not easy to accomplish with two adults and two kids, aged 8 and 1. My review, however, is about the service. As parents of babies, we know the table can get messy, and I always make sure to tip generously for that same reason. Eating out with kids can be overstimulating enoughâfeeding your kid, answering questions, eating yourself, etc.
In the middle of our meals, a server started cleaning our table fast looking really upset. She even asked my 8-year-old to pick up stuff from the floor and hand it to her. My daughter was still eating and had to interrupt her meal to pick up from the floor. I told the waitress that my daughter was eating and I didnât want her hands getting dirty.
Next, this waitress got the dustpan and started sweeping under our table. We still had dessert coming, so I politely requested that she wait until we left so we could peacefully finish our dinner. She went back, but immediately another server came with the broom and dustpan. I told him the same thing, but he was firm and told us he was going to clean.
I wish they were nicer and more mindful of people's boundaries. When you're that careless about client's requests you can't expect recurring business. Weâre in the suburbs, where most people have kids and need places to eat out with their families. I still tipped 15% out of respect but I wanted to leave no tip bc of the situation, they seemed so annoyed and were rude to us.
A good place for a meal is not only about the food but also about the level of care and respect you show your clients. I have to say, this is not the place for families...
Read moreBaan Talay Thai Restaurant makes us feel at home, and we're not Thai! Very friendly family atmosphere, nicely lit. The food is fantastic. Our server asked if we had any food allergies, it's the first time we've ever been asked that in the many restaurants that we've visited. That's a 5 star service right there. We were also given a picture menu, which helps tremendously if you're not familiar with the cuisine. I ordered the tiger cry, which was cooked to perfection. I believe the sauce could have been a bit stronger, but it was good regardless. Yesi ordered the salmon curry and she was in the clouds on how delicious and mildly spicy it was. Our server recommended the sweet rice with mango for desert and I have to say that it's simple, but wow! One of the best deserts I've had. The rice was sticky, warm, slightly sweet and a touch of salt, just bliss on the palate. The mango took me home to the Caribbean, sweet and delicious. Overall we recommend stopping by Baan Talay and enjoy a traditional Thai meal. We will be back to try other...
Read moreI just happened to drive by on Mason and saw this restaurant. I thought they were just newly opened but turns out they've been opened for 4 months already. I was missing out! The menu has a good selection, I couldn't figure out which one to get, so I tried a little bit of everything and no regrets. Tom Kha was so good, sour and sweet, refreshing and clean...roti was light and fluffy, so tasty. Crab fried rice was plenty and generous with real crab meat. Massaman beef curry was rich as was the yellow curry sauce. Mild was just the right amount of heat and kick as I have low tolerance for spicy food. We ordered the coconut pudding and it came on a rattan plate inside little baskets just like the picture on the menu, so cute. I'm so glad I found them. It's hard to find a really good restaurant these days where the taste, ambiance, servings and price is reasonable. I'll certainly be back as this is now on my short list of favorite restaurant. Btw, I asked what Baan (house)Talay (Beach) means in Thai and I learned it means...
