Today was the first time I have ever experienced discrimination in my life. First off let me start by telling you I love to tip, once I get good service and great food. So I brought my family here for the first time. Once we came in we were told you can it anywhere. We sat at our table, waiter comes over and I ask do they have flavored Ice tea? Her response was yes but no free refills, uhm thanks but that is not what I asked (strike 1, im going give her the benefit of the doubt) So I gave her our drinks and children's order and for us miso and Gyoza to start. Drinks came, miso and then a few minutes later my gyoza. Upon eating it the outside was cooked inside cold. I rang the table bell numerous times. Finally she comes, I say excuse me can you please have they cook them more because they were cold in the center and can you please bring me a straw and two ketchups for the children. She looks at me and say cold Im like touch it. She takes it and patiently waiting 15 min later nothing, now no return to see if her customers need anything. So I ran the bell 4 times and nothing, so I walk up to the front of the restaurant to ask someone for it, they asked where I was seated I showed her she said ok. She comes over finally with them and the straw puts its on the table aggressively (strike 2). Then she comes over with our main course and I said ma am you never came back with the gyoza, oh let me check I kindly explained to Elaine (waiter) cancel it. So while as we began to eat our main course she brings the gyoza I said no thank you but I asked you to please cancel its. She looks at me with the only attitude and say cancel it . I said yes thank you. So 20 min later she brings me my bill, funny part I did not ask for the check. I said oh thank you she walks away (strike 3)and she went to the back seconds later the workers one by one start coming out walking by then look at us. I asked if they had any questions for me since you are looking at me. The crazy part I have never been to this establishment. Anyway I got up paid the bill and as much as it hurt my heart, because I have never not to leave a tip at all. I do not care if you have a personal issue with race or nationality, when you deal with customers( PUBLIC) you are to be respectful to be respected and professional. When families come out to dinner and spend their hard earned money the least you can do is give good food and good service. Tip are to improve service and is not mandatory, never bite the hands that feed you and another one, be very mindful you never know who that customer is and what...
Read moreAs a graduate of California State University at Long Beach, I minored in Culinary Arts. I spent the last 2 years there learning Japanese Cuisine. I'm really NEVER TRULY IMPRESSED by Japanese Restaurant (outside of Japan. New York or San Francisco) Chinese owned and operated Sushi Hana is the EXCEPTION for this city. Always phenomenal , fresh with a wide variety of selections to choose from. The menu is very extensive!!! It's depth allows you explore almost every aspect of mainstream Japanese Cuisine. But I don't see that happening to often...because.......
ATTENTION PEOPLE OF TEXAS. Sushi and Sashimi are meant to be appetizers and served in a very limited amount. LOL, it blows my mind how people here in Houston treat it like the appetizer and a very long main course! đđ¤Łđ Well , until they realize the rice expanding in their stomachs and ask for the check. Anyway I digress, again the selection of these appetizers are usually damn good. Bright colors in all their proteins and their presentations are beautiful works of art. Where most Japanese Restaurants fail in having everything you need SUSHI HANA EXCELS. Weather it's Buetki, Quail Eggs, Uni , Barracuda or Monk Fish Liver they're on point.
I can only think of 1 place in the West Houston area (owned and operated by Japanese) that has them beat. Regardless, the service, the fresh product selection, the depth in the menu, the cleanliness of the entire business is together a great experience.
P.S. I...
Read moreAbsolutely love this place!! I've been coming here since high school and the food has always always been delicious. This place was basically where I learned to eat sushi, and, trust me, it's a high bar. The service is fast, and there's an endless selection to choose from! I've had everything from a sushi boat when with large parties to bento boxes, fried rice, salmon, and tempura when with family and friends. All so yummy! Some of my faves are the veggie tempura appetizer, the gyoza wonton soup, and salmon bento box. My FOREVER go-to order every time is the Calamari Roll - everyone that's tried it has gotten hooked! I get it every time I'm in town!! Also highly recommend the tornado roll - super yummy and very insta-worthy presentation.
The atmosphere is open and modern, and they're very accommodating for large parties!! Perfect place for business lunches, reunions with friends, or just a quick meal! They also give out Andes chocolates with the bill which I've really come to love. Really a place that holds a lot of memories for me! Especially good times convincing my friends that the wasabi was actually guacamole!!
tl;dr: this place is bomb, you won't regret...
