We went to Cafe Petra in Katy on the fifth day after they opened and thought the food was excellent. After living in the Middle East for 7 years, and having travelled to Greece and the Greek Islands, we know what to expect with Middle Eastern and Greek cuisine, and have found that hard to get in the U.S.. Cafe Petra (to us) has nailed it - the food is authentic (not Americanized-versions of traditional recipes), made with high-quality and fresh ingredients, tasty, and suitably priced. We ordered a family meal to share and would order it again, but perhaps not in a hurry as there are so many other things on the menu that we would like to try first. We are recommending Cafe Petra to all of our friends, and know we will be repeat customers. It was clear the restaurant was short-staffed on the night we went there, and they were challenged by the number of customers who showed up. This made things slow and sometimes awkward, but it was very clear the staff were trying hard to make everyone happy, and at all times they were warm and friendly - what more could we reasonably ask for? Securing more staff is hopefully an easy fix for the owners, as they will need them - I suspect Cafe Petra is going to be a very popular local restaurant. My family wishes the owners all the very best in their new business venture - and thanks them for bringing us the best...
Read moreFirst, let me say that I respect all small business owners and realize how hard it is to build a business and a brand. This is the second time I have ordered from this café and the first time I thought maybe it was a mistake because my food was not cooked. So I decided to try again, hoping that they could do better. I didn’t complain the first time. But this time I called the restaurant and they didn’t Offered to give me a credit for a return visit, so I thought I would leave a posting.
On both occasions, I ordered the Gyro sandwich and it just wasn’t cooked. So this time I made a special exception and repeated my order three times to make sure they knew that I wanted it Cooked and more on the crispy side. And when I went to pick it up one of the employees even said that he made sure it was gonna be crispy so I didn’t think to check it before I left the restaurant. However, when I got home, it was almost raw and not crispy at all. And it does not sit well with my stomach when it’s not cooked. I’m afraid to say that it’s difficult apparently to get your food cooked at this location I would strongly encourage you if you’re ordering the gyro to make sure it’s crispy. It would require them to put it on the grill probably and cook it for a few extra minutes. The hummus was fantastic, however For $17 I think I could’ve...
Read moreTried this place last night with my family and had a great experience. When we entered around 7:00pm we were the only customers but more customers kept coming. Service was very good and the meals delicious. The place is in a strip center with windows facing the parking lot and inside furnished with some nice tables and chairs. A few TVs attached to the wall. Place very clean. We tried a couple of appetizers - a large Humus & Pita and some Fried cheese sticks drizzled with oil and garlic. Both were very good and filling on their own. I tried the meat moussaka one of their specialty plates. This was very delicious and highly recommend. Our party also had the beef kabobs, chicken shwarma plate, Petra sandwich and everyone enjoyed. The black tea and lemonade very tasty as well. I recommend giving this place a try for something out of the ordinary that provides great service and good food.
Small suggestion to owner is to update the menus to include pictures and descriptions of the food items like on website. The in house menus are a bit plain and do not have the same appeal as online, so a bit harder to choose items for new people unfamiliar...
