This is a pretty nice golf course, I enjoyed playing here a lot. It's not an easy course, but with some course management and knowing your misses, you can get around just fine. There are houses that are just adjacent to the course, but the course is not super narrow. During my visit, the course was recently aerated, but that's alright, means the course is being maintained.
The tee boxes are pretty nice with nice grass, especially the par 3's.
The fairways are also nice with well maintained grass, really liked the the fairway grass. The rough is what it is, rough. The grass can get thick and grab your club face, so staying in the fairway is best on this course. There are fairway bunkers throughout the course, but look ahead and plan a longer or shorter shot will keep you safe. There is sand in the fairway bunkers, but can't tell you how much, I was able to avoid them. Some of the fairways were split fairways with obstacles or small gulch, added to the challenge and course management will get you to still do well on these holes...had fun on these holes.
The greens were enjoyable to put on, rolled smoothly. There is undulation on the greens but not an unreal amount, so being able to read the breaks will help. Look ahead before you hit to know if the the flag is front, middle, or back, the greens are on the smaller side. During my visit the front 9 greenside bunkers were being renovated, again signs the course is being maintained. The back 9 greenside bunkers were still alright, they had sand and nice to hit out of.
Amenities -Range- there is a nice driving range with grass to hit off of. They give a small basket of complementary range balls with your round...nice touch. -practice putting green- the practice putting green is nice with variations of undulation and representatives of the greens on the course. -There is a restaurant on property with good food. We got the Bento and musubi which were both good and reasonably priced.
Liked the course a lot and had a lot of fun, played a good round as well. I will be coming back to this course the...
Read morePuakea is a wonderful, relaxing golf course, with stunning views as a back drop to this well maintained course. For my most recent round, with no advanced reservation, we were on the course and running within 15 minutes.
The cost was reduced due to our kama aina discount (have all licenses ready for all parties who live locally). We played the front nine, which had its challenges with water hazards and dog legs, but never felt overwhelming, especially for my wife.
The most comforting part of the experience came when the course superintendent cam rolling up to us, and I expected he was going to give me some flack for playing two balls. Instead, he was telling us to slow down and enjoy ourselves, as he saw us speed walking to our ball and our cart. We don't like having those behind us on our backs, but they weren't and we were probably being paranoid, so his recommendation was well received and headed.
Definitely recommended for this seeking an enjoyable day or part thereof, golfing on the east...
Read moreSuper guttered in the staff as was made to feel like nothing and like had no idea what we were upto. Had arranged some early tee times and when arriving felt super rushed, got told we were late( we were the only ones in the carpark, course was NOT busy) so made to feel stupid yet I put thru 9 golfers and spending alot of money there, so dont expect to roll up and get away easy as this was def not the case today. Course was good as but super guttered in the way we were treated(only 2 staff memebers) so would not recommend this. Would not recommend this course due to super rude staff who felt they were golf gods but come on it's meant to be fun(wonder why young kids dont want to play golf now) as I'd never send my kid there die to staff. Come on puakea, it should have been an awesome, exciting time to play golf here. Not happy. Lucky the course held up its end. Also liked to when arriving as had pre booked day before and then spun alot of b.s on the day. Not...
