Smokin' J's Rib and Brewhouse — Restaurant in Kentucky

This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I’m not one to complain much or review a business but this is just unacceptable and I truly hope this restaurant takes this seriously. So there was a 30 minute wait, which was fine. We were sat right next to the check in stand where there was 3-4 people standing at a time, the entire time. We said something about table placement and we’re ignored as we were sat. The food was decent, no complaint there. When the waitress checked on us, she asked how the food was and how we were, and we said food is good but table placement was not and she said, “they sat you at the worst table in the restaurant.” Completely true. We ate, we paid and tipped and told the waitress that we know it’s not her fault but the tables in the patio waiting area is ridiculous. She apologized and said she’d get the manager to come talk to us even though we did not request it and had already paid. The manager was a tall, petite redhead woman. She was extremely rude and immature. She asked what the problem was and we told her that the seating situation is ridiculous. And she was trying to come up with every excuse and blame us for sitting there like we weren’t seated by the staff. Her whole attitude was mind-blowingly childish. Offered no solutions and only made the situation worse by her attitude. There were more details of her attitude but I don’t want to write a book about it. I have never had an experience like this at a restaurant. I have never been sat where many people are waiting for tables (10+). Also, an honorable mention, there was a family sat a few feet next to us to had 2 young children around 5 years old and they weren’t given children’s menus. The woman had to get up and go to the check in stand that was right next to us and get them. The waitress we had was good, she was nice and considerate, but the management of this place needs some serious attitude fixing. We were in no way trying to be Karen’s or mean or complain for no reason and not looking for a discount (we had already paid when manager came over). This is a very generous three-star review. We have mixed emotions on this place. Some of the food was good but not all of it. Our server was good but not knowledgeable on beer. You would think working at a brewhouse you would know the basics of beer.

For the type of food it is, it's reasonably priced. The kids meal meals were reasonably priced but they only have a few options for side items.

Their beer selection is minimal at best. Very small draft beer selection. For a brew house you would think they would have a much better beer selection. When we asked the server If they had any IPAs, she named off about three beers. One was a brown ale and one was a lager. She clearly didn't know what IPA meant. I'm sorry but if you're going to work at a brewhouse, you should know the basics of beer. Can't stress that enough.

First of all, they don't have any great healthy options. A healthy side item when you're having an entree or sandwich less healthy can make you feel better about your choices Walking into a place like this, you shouldn't expect that so that doesn't affect our review.

Our children 's food was disgusting. Microwaved blobs of burnt in the middle macaroni and cheese, overcooked corn dogs and side items they would not eat. It really irritates us when the same amount of care is not given to the children's food as the rest of the meal.

What we were super excited about was the fact that you could get pretzel buns with your sandwiches. We had the basic turkey and the chopped brisket. The turkey was excellent with the pretzel bun and toppings. LOVED the pickles The brisket was meh. The barbecue sauce options were really tasty though. We don't usually eat french fries, but there were not a lot of side options. Those turned out to be one of the best food items. It was the only side item that the children would eat and they usually don't eat french fries.

Overall we were disappointed but we've had worse. If you're going there for a good beer, skip this place. If you're going there for good barbecue, It's okay. We would have to go there and try a few more things to say yay or nay but since there's not a lot of great beer options,...

Worst restaurant experience I’ve had in my life. I wish I could rate 0 star. The hosts are so unprofessional, as well as the servers. Most of the managers are just as unprofessional and rude. We walked inside the restaurant and I noticed the hosts were annoyed by us coming in, as they were all chatting and had us wait until they finished they’re conversation to even acknowledge us. Brought me and my husband our drinks, then we waited over 45 minutes to have our order taken. I would understand if it was a busy night but there were only 3 other tables occupied. When our orders were finally taken, we waited over an hour this time for our food. The server was not very attentive and was avoiding our table even when I tried to flag someone down for a drink refill after waiting patiently for a long time. Our food was very bland and honestly tasted like hospital/school food. We ordered various meats and some were undercooked, some were over cooked to the point it was dehydrated jerky. The macaroni and cheese was also very dry and flavorless. It made me wonder what was going on in the kitchen as I could hear loud screaming and Rap music coming from the kitchen in loud volumes. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I was so disgusted by what we were served I asked the server to speak with a manager to let them know how unhappy I was with my food and they just told me they were sorry and this is what they are serving and walked away. I’m sure the owners have dedication and have a vision for this place. It’s just that management needs to go as it was very disorganized as the employees didn’t have any discipline or direction.
