This place is okay.
I am from TEXAS and we love our MEXICAN Restaurants there, and there are a TON of Excellent Options. Uncle Julios, Anamias and MANY, MANY others.
With that being said - Successful Mexican restaurants ALWAYS have PATIOS and Margarita specials, and SANTANA's really needs an all-year-round PATIO!!!! AND (very important), Margarita SPECIALS and HAPPY HOURS!!!! People ALWAYS go and hang out and KEOKUK (Santana's) needs these TWO THINGS and ONE additional issue to address (below).
They also need to make their meats, here at Santana's, need to be thicker. Their tacos are good, but pretty much anything else like FAJITAS (My favorite), are just not good here. The meat is too salty because the Steak Meat and Chicken meat is too SMALL and they just aren't good. But like I said, their PULLED Chicken Tacos are good!!! Really good... But I miss Fajitas because all of these Mexican places around here just dont do their meats right.... TOO SMALL... I am talking about the size of the strips of meat....
If Santana's wants to FLUORISH, Im telling you, these three things need to be changed, updated and implemented quickly.... Meat size needs to be better quality PATIO for social moments (all-seasoned one for Iowa weather) Margarita and Drink specials (HAPPY HOURS are popular)!!!
I really hope they do these things, and I promise you all - they will fluorish and people WILL COME THERE to hang on the patio and have Margarita and other drink specials!!!
It will be well known and the most popular MEXICAN joint around! PROMISE YOU!!! How do I know? Because in the SOUTH (TEXAS for example), ALL Mexican joints have these things... Well, the successful ones do! LOOK IT UP and do it!!! I will come there in groups to enjoy these things!
Please consider! No mex place around here does patios, etc... I was like, WHAT~!! Every MEX place has these things... Up the quality of the meat too... What the response from...
Read moreThe young lady with glasses was excellent she seated us and took our drink orders! She is the best thing about the restaurant to be honest. The pico consists of tomatoes with cilantro no onions or peppers. Our server a different lady took our order I asked for my nachos to be served with no chips and she looked at me rather odd. I said I will just use the chips on the table so I can control my blood sugar she had the nerve to tell me she would just take them back then. We were alrdy eating them and while I'm sure she was joking it wasn't funny. She brought me a refill of my drink (or so I thought) she brought me sweet tea instead of the unsweetened the young lady with glass brought me. You would have thought she would have known I was drinking unsweetened tea or if in doubt ask maybe. I also thought our server of food was a little condescending acting towards the young lady who seated us and got our drinks. I would have honestly preferred her as our waitress. She if said when we left thanks for coming in. I told...
Read moreThe virgen daiquiri was delicious! But the enchila plate not so much.. The rice was was dry almost to the point of being hard and was very bland. The beans were also very bland and very soupy/sloppy. They had hardly any taste as well. As for the enchiladas, they were probably the best thing on the plate. Not that they were very good though.. We ordered the beef and chicken enchiladas, both of which were swimming in grease... And the 'cheese sauce' was just melted shredded cheese. Over all the meal was very bland and drowning in grease from the meats, cheese, and beans. Not to even mention...
