I have been going to Piggy’s/Hog Heaven my entire life. For years, a placemat sketch that I drew as a child hung in the restaurant. (It might still be there.) I was saddened this past winter when I read about the passing of one of the original owners, Mr. Paul. He and his wife were always such gracious hosts and so entertaining when I was a kid. The restaurant is part of some of my fondest childhood memories and a longstanding tradition in our family. Anyone we bring up to Lake Harmony gets breakfast on us at Piggy’s or dessert on us at Hog Heaven.
It genuinely pains me to write this review about my most recent experience.
The employee with the first initial “M.”—who identified herself as the manager of Hog Heaven—was, quite frankly, rude and is unfit for her position. She took our order using a point-of-sale system on a tablet that automatically includes a tip. The only way to remove the tip is to tap a button labeled “other” and then manually enter zero. I did not notice that a tip had been automatically included until after the transaction was complete. We typically tip at small businesses like this in cash, and for what it’s worth, we would have left more than the amount that was automatically charged to my card.
Once our order was fulfilled, I tried to politely offer some feedback to the employees that the POS system is confusing and potentially misleading. One of the employees was very polite and receptive. However, the employee with the first initial “M.”—who was in the middle of assisting other customers—immediately inserted herself into the conversation, became defensive, and raised her voice to insist that she had not personally added the tip but that it was simply the way the system worked.
She then took a wad of cash from either under the counter or out of her pocket and began counting out dollar bills to hand back to me. I explained to her no fewer than five times—without exaggeration—that I did not want the money refunded and that I was simply trying to share feedback about what I considered a poor customer experience. She continued to be belligerent, dismissive, and lacking any semblance of empathy. She also persisted in counting out cash, apparently in an attempt to embarrass me in front of other customers, who looked over at my family in clear astonishment at the way we were being treated.
I understand the business is now being run by one of Bette and Paul’s daughters, who is about my age. I sincerely hope you see this and that you are able to address the demeanor and conduct of this employee, who is so poorly representing your...
Read moreI never leave reviews on places I have been, but my experience this year around has been terrible. Never coming back here again.
The ice cream itself, usually has a good taste, but this summer getaway me and my friends found that some of the ice creams we ordered had ice-crystals in them or tasted like they had been left out in the heat for a long time.
When I arrived with my friends, the line was wrapped around the entire building, which doesn't look stable or clean at all. What started as a ten minute trip turned into a near hour of waiting in the hot sun only to be greeted by an unpleasant staff who just seemed to argue the entire time.
The prices themselves are like highway robbery, especially for a cash only establishment, and the portions have gotten extremely small. For the quality of ice cream, nothing we got was worth it. Not to mention, the cones were stale and the staff couldn't even get my mother's order correct.
In addition, the plastic spoons are weak and break extremely easily as well as the cups. You would think the owners would have more spending money to give customers a great experience, but it seems like they are just in it for the money.
I'll find a better place next time, and I...
Read morethe area near the front where you order smelled so bad that i thought that they maybe actually had pigs in little petting zoo or something nearby. no, it was just trash. im not sure if it's the trash bins or the dumpster but it did not smell good the worker didn't like the fact that we pressed "no tip" when paying (after the machine automatically added a tip on) and seemed to get an attitude about it details about our order were missing, my boyfriend ordered chocolate sprinkles (didn't get them) and i asked for a cup (didn't get it) our orders were not complicated, either there were chunks of ice in the ice cream. the wrappers stuck to the cones, so there was paper and glue residue (?) still stuck to the cones that we couldn't get off. this even happened with the waffle cone that we paid extra for
the ice cream was good aside from the ice chunks, I liked the...
