Love this place for so many reasons. We visit the Poconos once a year and always stop by for breakfast here before leaving. The food is good overall, although I was not a fan of the pancakes, and the flat sausages. Everything else was good though, from the eggs benedict to the omelettes, to the fried steak and eggs. The coffee is not the best either though.
However, where they fall short on food, they make up for in ambiance and attitude. Most of the servers are friendly and do a good job, but the decorations that make up the aura of the restaurant really makes my day. There are positive messages posted everywhere you look, flowery decorations in corners and crevices, and interesting, cute designs on paper and in construct (such as a bird cage by the bathroom). Really cute and pretty little details everywhere. I can only imagine how the owner decorates her home!
There is also a cute little gift shop attached in the back section of the restaurant with clothing, gifts, and little knickknacks for sale. Again, a very pretty space with lots of interesting and pretty little things that catch your eye! Some items are a little high priced, but you will find some items that you may not have seen before too, so look around and explore!
This cafe is a special little place and I can tell that they have many regulars that frequent this place. It is always a telltale sign that something is really nice about a place where the wait can be an hour long on some mornings and the large parking lot gets packed! Don't expect gourmet, but definitely expect an interesting dining experience with smiles to go along...
Read moreThe Terra Cottage Cafe was an interesting first time experience. Although it was incredibly busy, the host did ensure it would only be a 20 minute wait and for the most part that was accurate.
The Terra Cottage Cafe is huge and filled with decor appropriate for back in the day. This is both a positive and a negative as the chairs are not all comfortable for the dining in experience.
And although we were seated quickly, it did take a while to get breakfast. This is expected since the cafe was super busy.
So how was the food?
Well, let's start off with the oreo hot chocolate and the cinnamon sticky bun coffee (pictured in this review.) They are absolutely decadent and a one way trip to delicious diabetes. The drinks are incredibly flavorful and topped with chunky bits of oreo and vanilla sugar cookies.
The mug is enormous which means you absolutely need to start your drink with a spoon or straw. It is a very fun treat and easy to recommend.
However, I do have to say that my egg and cheese, sausage and bacon kaiser roll was... ok. It wasn't bad but the sausage flavor didn't really stand out. Even chain restaurants like Lenny's can give a much better tasting egg sandwich experience. There was too much bread and not organized in a way you could taste everything.
Their roasted breakfast potatoes on the other hand are savory and addictive. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with food that met expectations. I wasn't blown away but I would certainly come back if I was ever in the area...
Read moreI would honestly give 0 stars if I could. I went this past weekend with my friends on a Sunday morning so we were expecting it to be busy. We first came in and it was a 20 minute wait which wasn't a big deal to us. We were seated and someone came over to ask if we had a drink order. After we got our drinks, we waited an hour for our actual waitress to come to our table! No one had checked up on us and after the first 30 minutes, we flagged down another waitress who told us that they were busy and would get to us eventually. Our waitress apologized that she was late to the table and took our order immediately, but it took another 30-45 minutes to get our food and then another 20 minutes to pay when we asked for our checks as soon as the food got to the table. After all the waiting, we thought the food would be amazing since we were so hungry, but it was honestly average. I could have gotten better food from a McDonalds...and it would have been quicker. Someone also came over to the table to ask how our food was. We all made "eh" noises and were saying it wasn't amazing, and then the woman LAUGHED and walked away. By the time we left, all the other tables that had gotten there after us had already left. We got there around 11:15 and by the time we actually left, it was already 1:30! I've been looking at reviews and it seems other people have issues like this too. My advice, only come to this place if you want to be ignored for 2 hours and then served...
