I stopped at Swooger’s looking for a quick place to eat after leaving Kings Mountain State Park after seeing their menu online and loving the variety offered.
The biggest thing I would say before coming here is if you think you may be politically sensitive then you will feel that impact the moment you step foot inside.
Entering Swooger’s there is plenty of room for a small party; several tables that seat 4 and can be joined up to seat more.
There are two counters to order from, the food counter and the dessert counter.
The food counter is ordinary enough, our service woman was a shy but friendly teenager who was able to help navigate the menu quite well. It should be stated that the menu and drink selection are plentiful and if you are indecisive about your orders you may be overwhelmed at the options.
There is no soda fountain here, but this is made up for by a wide selection of canned sodas, fruit punch, YooHoo, etc - including some more local options. These cans are unrefrigerated but they provide a cup with ice when a soda is ordered.
The dessert counter, however, can first be mistaken as a Trump shrine - with a display of various hats, stickers, pictures, propaganda and more that screams of Republican nationalism - which for some is inspiring and for others discomforting. Beside this counter is a wall covered with flags some of which regard support for the USA and its military and others which are commonly associated with, once again, Republican Nationalism.
The dessert is kept in good condition and is good, nothing outstanding but nothing to snub either - primarily ice cream which can be made into banana splits or milkshakes.
Counters aside the atmosphere for the rest of the restaurant aside screams family diner, with the walls adorned with multiple records from the 80s and back - but the cleanliness of the restaurant left a lot to be wanted with: no clean tables, dingy lighting, sticky and messy salt, pepper, and seasoning shakers, the aforementioned soda cans being covered in unknown residues and dust, and an uncomfortably unmaintained restroom.
The prices of everything in the restaurant was exceptionally cheap and amazing quality for its price.
All of this to say, the food was delicious and with many options, and the staff was serviceable and friendly. Swooger’s is great if you are taking your food to-go or don’t mind getting your arms a...
Read moreFood is great! Prices are great! But the young lady who does customer service at the register at lunch time has such bad customer service skills. Before my family went I decided to call to see if they took Discover card. A lot of places only take Master Card or Visa so I wanted to make sure. The girl answered the phone, as I began to ask her my question, she says with attitude in her voice “ I guess so” I replied can you please make sure so I know whether we need to stop for cash. She makes a noise like “ uggg” slams the phone down and comes back to the phone in a hateful voice and says “ yeah we take it” then proceeds to hang up. I figured she was busy. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt. As we get to the restaurant and order. I knew exactly who the girl was that answered the phone. She was the one who took our order as well. Her attitude was so apparent that you could see it in her face. She was taking orders like it was killing her. Rolling her eyes. When she ran the card through the machine and brought back the receipt to sign she slammed it on the counter. Again I didn’t want to speak because I know she was having a bad day. I go to tell her thank you and again her eyes roll again. I will continue to go back. But that lady needs to be taught some customer service. She might get that attitude with the wrong customer. My prayers...
Read moreMy husband and I went there on a Tuesday afternoon. I asked if I could try a taste of chicken salad to be sure I would like it before I ordered a sandwich and the young man taking my order said no problem and went to get a sample in a little cup for me, but I saw one of the girls behind the counter shake her head so he came back and said sorry, the chicken salad was already portioned out for sandwiches. Okay, no problem, I work in restaurants, I understand portioning. I order the chicken salad anyway, assured by the young man that it is good. While we wait for our food (which took 20 minutes for a burger, a sandwich, and two small fries) I am watching the girls in the kitchen making the orders. I watch the girl pick up a two quart container full of chicken salad and put two scoops on my bread! Then they GRILLED it, which means the mayo - which is about 85% of the "chicken" salad - is hot and runny. Lies and runny food. I didn't complain then, frankly I was so angry about being lied to I was afraid of what I might say, but rest assured I will NOT be going...
