5 stars – A True Hidden Gem in Colonial Heights!
Zachary’s Steakhouse is more than just a place to eat—it’s a place where you feel like family the moment you walk through the door. On our recent visit, the owner, Yared Desalegn, was personally in the kitchen preparing our Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, and they were absolutely delicious. I started with their vegetable beef soup, which was rich and flavorful—perfectly seasoned and served piping hot.
We also ordered the onion rings after seeing a photo of them on the front of the building, and we were not disappointed—they were hands-down the best onion rings I’ve ever had: crispy, golden, and flavorful without that overly strong onion taste.
Yared came out to speak with us after we ate and even took a photo with me at our table. He’s not only an excellent chef and host, but also a pillar of the community. He owns Colonial Heights Hardware next door and has gone out of his way—literally opening the hardware store for us on a closed day—to help us when we were in need.
This is the kind of place where the owner remembers your name, the food tastes like it came from your grandma’s kitchen, and the service is second to none. Zachary’s is a true local treasure, and we’ll absolutely be back.

Read moreLemme tell ya......I have lived in Kingsport my ENTIRE life and I've always thought to myself..."Man I gotta try Zachary Steakhouse sometime" and for some ungodly reason I would always forget about it or put it in the back burner til another time, but then a few weeks ago my buddies at Wampler's barber shop were ordering it for lunch and raving about how good it was so the other night my special lady and I were looking for something different to eat and Zachary's popped into my skull so off we went. And I'm gonna tell ya now I was completely shocked and blown away and then very sad that I've missed out on this jewel for so long! I got the Ultimate BLT and the cornbread salad and added a house salad. First off the salad was amazing and the BLT was stacked with bacon and fresh tomato and lettuce and was absolutely perfect and omg the best cornbread salad ever!! My special lady friend had the 8oz sirloin and a shrimp skewer, steak was medium and was absolutely perfect too and the shrimp were fresh and perfectly cooked. I'm telling you now....if you haven't been to this gem in Colonial Heights then you better get...
Read moreCan't say I was impressed. There were 3 in our party. Two ordered hamburgers & one the vegetable beef soup. We did go at a busy time, about 5:30pm on a Monday. It seemed to take about 15-20 minutes for the food to come out. Both of the hamburgers had to be sent back for more complete cooking (both were originally requested well done). There was another 20 min delay for the correctly cooked hamburgers to arrive, this time correctly. In the meantime the patron with the soup has finished eating. I don't believe I have ever seen vegetable beef soup made with hamburger meet instead of chunks of beef. It was more like a stew than a soup. It took a while for the check to arrive. It could have been a shortage of help both on the floor & in the kitchen, but it did seem both table service & kitchen service were lacking. Certainly flavor of the soup was lacking. It could have been an off day but I was less than impressed. I try not to let a first bad experience be a deciding factor. I would go back for...
