West End Grill — Restaurant in Kingston

My fiancé and I frequent this place often and it is one of our favorites. Service and food are always outstanding. Unfortunately today our experience was marred by the 3-4 loud men at the bar. We expect it to be loud in here because of the design but having to listen to these men yelling and loudly slamming their hand on the bar is not a pleasant experience. I brought it up to the bartender and my impression was it was out of her control. The other customers around us were staring and quite obviously bothered by the noise. Once we left I called and complained to the manager, Justin, that we come often and how disappointed we were with the behavior of the men. He stated that he didn’t think the noise level was loud and he didn’t hear the bar being slammed. He then proceeded to explain to me that customers in question were friends of his and they worked for the Sheriffs department and were “jazzed up” from the poker tournament they had just attended. I explained to him that that is all fine and good but the many of the bar customers were staring and obviously bothered by the excessive noise and that I didn’t think their behavior was appropriate for the restaurant atmosphere because I wasn’t sitting in a sports bar. We were in one of the nicer restaurants in the area and not at the Charlie Horse. Very disappointed with this experience tonight but honestly more discouraged with the managements non handling of the issue. Otherwise we love this place !! and will be back and hopefully it was a 1 time...

Sat at the bar on a weeknight, bar tender was slow to acknowledge were were there. Offered menus first when all we wanted to start our visit with was a drink. First thing we noticed how nice the place looked but the noise level was extremely high, discouraging loud. Sitting next to each other at the bar was a strain to talk loud and a strain to hear each other. Menu was impressive, great variety. Food was ordered and arrived promptly. Neither of us were disappointed with the food we ordered. We were very excited up hear this restaurant was coming into our neighborhood and looking forward to try it out. Based on the noise level alone we will probably not return except to pick up a takeout order. Hopefully others will complain about the noise and a remedy will be installed so we can return. When we arrived they said 35 min for a wait, I was pleased that we waited less than 10 min. It was quite loud in there, but we were seated quickly after they called us (very convenient that they call rather than hand you a device). Service was excellent, our waitress was on top of everything and had attention to detail. Loved the menu, there’s a good mix of mid priced options and then there’s also some really good dinner options, but the menu isn’t ridiculously overwhelming like some places. I opted for the sirloin risotto and it was excellent, perfectly cooked and had a ton of flavor. My hubby had scrod and said it was a really nice piece of fish. We are very fussy about food since we enjoy cooking and do a lot of it at home, so when we go out we have high expectations. We really enjoyed this place. My only negative is that it is extremely loud, but that’s not something that would deter me...
