We came in for a late lunch, party of 4. We were greeted and waitress was quick with providing us a menu and our drinks. We ordered 2 appetizers, mozzarella sticks for the girls and brisket nachos for all of us. The marinara sauce was cold and we had to request it be warmed, the nachos were room temperature, but were tasty and we enjoyed them regardless. I ordered a Cesar salad with chicken, I got yellow lettuce with a few green pieces of romaine, sprinkled with Cesar dressing and over cooked dry chicken slices. I asked for more Cesar dressing and she returned with less than half of a dressing cup. I advised the server that brought out the food that I would need more dressing but never returned to our table. (Restaurant had 3 busy tables at the time). My oldest ordered a Cobb salad and it came with a cup full of purple onions, eggs that had brown spots on yolk, no ham, and lettuce apparently with a taste of alcohol. She looked over the menu and it had ingredients that the house salad had not the Cobb salad she ordered. My youngest ordered spaghetti and meatballs, although she made the best of it, there was hardly any marinara sauce to this plate. Both my daughters and my husband picked at it and they all said both noodles and meatballs were dry and that it had a weird taste to it. Our waitress never returned after taking our order therefore we didn’t get the opportunity to complain or request it to be fixed. This was our first meal of the day, so of course after no one attended to us we picked at our food but mostly got full on the nachos. We walked up to the register, and I was asked by the same server if everything was ok. I in turn said actually it wasn’t. When I mentioned these things she said hold on and walked off. A man then walked up and asked if we had been helped and my response a lady was helping me. Come to find out it was the manager “Amado.” He didn’t come up to the register with concern or asking how he could help us. He didn’t approach me with “Hi, I’m so and so, I was advised you had a complaint. How can I help you? Instead after reiterating my complaints and the server beside him already with the spaghetti plate they asked if I had pics or if I had complained. I in turn said how could I, if no one returned to our table. I had to ask them to allow me to talk, as the server interrupted saying your daughter said it was fine when I dropped it off and the manager trying to talk over me. Ok but did you come back after we started to eat to ask if we were ok or if we needed anything? Her comment was I didn’t take your order. Yet you’re standing in front of me with the bowl trying to make a point. Amado’s response was did you eat your food. We all picked at it but regardless I’m letting you know my complaints, in which you should be wanting to know how customers are rating you and their feedback. Instead you’re being immature and arguing with a customer at your front door asking for our proof. Grab all of our plates for your proof. And if you look at the receipt you can see 3 main meals instead of 4 since my husband didn’t bother to order a plate after our complaints and tasting from all 3 plates. It became an argument vs a concern to a restaurant manager and how to improve or have your customer return for a better experience. He did not charge us after the argument, thanks, but you taking care of a customers concern would have been much more appreciated because I would have taken a discount or let me prepare you a better meal, you can take it to go if you wish. We definitely are not returning. They should stick to what they do best, Mexican food. They have no business having an over priced...
Read moreWhen I first started working in Kingsville, all of my coworkers, who are native to the town, bragged about the "Texacali" sandwich. Thinly sliced and chopped steak on a sesame seed bun with grilled mushrooms and onions, topped with Monterey jack cheese, mayo, and bits of diced jalapeño. It sounded good, so I tried it with an open mind. It was a very decent sandwich, but I don't think it was worthy of all the praise. I was told to never actually go for the pizza at Young's Pizza, so me being my usual self, I ordered the pepperoni pizza on my next visit. Let's just say it was a sad excuse for a pizza. I have also had the "Meat Patootie", which is sliced/chopped steak on top of a baked potato with garlic, margarine, sour cream, Provolone, mushrooms, and Worcestershire sauce. It was also decent, but not something I'd write home about. During my most recent visit, still with an open mind, I tried the Polish Sausage Sandwich. This sandwich is made of grilled, sliced Polish sausage on a sesame seed bun with pickles, onions, and mustard. It left a lot to be desired. I didn't like that the sausage was sliced, as a lot of fatty flavor gets lost when cooking pre-sliced sausage. So, the food is decent, however my 2-star rating is due to the atmosphere. If you like a nice, clean place to sit and eat, this place isn't for you. The walls and chairs are completely covered in sharpie pen markings and signatures, as that is the restaurant's theme, but it just look so dirty to me. It almost reminds me of a filthy truck stop restroom. The thought that thousands of people's (more than likely) unwashed hands have touched the walls and chairs just grosses me out. I only go now because my friends like this place, and I can bare it every once in a while for lunch. I'm just very careful with what I touch. If the food were absolutely amazing, I could probably get over the atmosphere issue that I have, but it isn't absolutely amazing. They have very decent food that I would probably just order to go, but it's not good enough for me to outweigh the filthy...
Read moreJust moved from Alabama and heard a lot of good things about the place from before the owner change and was invited here tonight for a b-day dinner. We came in and sat for 15 mins before we were asked for our drink order. Close to 30 minutes later our drinks finally came out, I went ahead and ordered another because I felt like this was going to be a trend. I ordered the Texicali and it was okay, not fantastic but okay. Another 20 minutes I got my sandwich, and the server disappeared for about half an hour. Our drinks were empty for a WHILE before another girl finally showed back up (no idea who this person was). Took another drink order of ours, an order of dine in stuffed mushrooms, and a TO-GO margherita pizza. Another 30 minutes go by, and the mushrooms come out when we're almost ready to leave and my girlfriend bites into one and it's probably a good 70 degrees on the inside (that's being generous). We wait another 20 minutes, and the pizza still hasn't come out yet and we're ready to leave. Finally get the pizza at the counter when we're paying and it was already cold somehow. Definitely not coming back and severely disappointed. Not worth the $80.
I've worked food service a long time. Anywhere from Manager, line cook, to server; but I've never been in a restaurant this disorganized. I try to have a lot of patience for this line of work because I know how stressful it can be, BUT the restaurant was only half full on a Friday night and it at least appeared to be fully staffed. All I can say is this place needs some...
