Nestled along the river is this beautiful place.
Upon entering you are greeted by a smiling friendly face.
I would suggest reservations as this place can get busy.
If you do not have reservations you might have to wait to get seated.
But don't let that stop you from going to the small bar they have towards the back while you're waiting for seats.
The bar is small and comfortable. Fully stocked with quality spirits handled by a very capable tender.
Drinks were perfect.
When you get seated for dinner and take a look at the menu don't expect to be overwhelmed by choices. They are limited but have a good selection of items.
The appetizer menu is small and not your typical offerings.
They do bring you some fresh bread and butter while you're waiting for your appetizer.
There were 7 in our party so we ordered 5-6 different appetizers.
Calamari, wood grilled vegetables, steamed mussels and clams, filet tip bruschetta and the chef soup. All were done well and were very pleasing.
The entrees we ordered ranged from an 8oz. Sirloin, ribeye, rack of lamb, filet, smoked trifecta ( brisket, filet tips and sweet sausage), seafood scampi and grilled vegetables over rice.
Portion sizes are not small but not overwhelming either.
All were pleased with they're dish. The only complaint was with the lamb and that was the mashed was not hot. Other than that, it was a very pleasing experience.
The desert menu was limited to about 4 items and not on the menu.
Full from dinner only 3 had desert of which 2 ask for it to be boxed to be taken home.
I can only comment on what was brought home by my wife.
The peanut butter and chocolate pie, she said was great, very rich in flavor.
In all, 7 of us dined, drank and had desert and Irish coffee or regular coffee.
Total bill came just short of $550. Including a separate bar bill.
That may sound like a lot of money but if you break it down it would be what you would expect pay.
Our drinks, closer to 15 in all, ranged from old fashioned, the fluffernutter, smoked cinnamon & rye old fashioned and to drinks not listed. The drinks were done well, not watered down and not overpowering either.
Overall, from start to finish, a very pleasing experience that shouldn't...
Read moreI hate leaving bad reviews, especially for local restaurants... But.. I had to.
Two days ago I made a reservation for our engagement anniversary. I wanted to treat my fiance to a fantastic dinner, and I had been wanting to try this place out for a while.
We arrived and was seated immediately. We were given menus and that was it. We didn't get seen, or even were asked for drinks while we waited. Everyone else was taken care of hand and foot while we quietly waited. After about 30 minutes we decided maybe they were too busy, and we didn't want to have our night ruined, so we started to get up to leave.
Of course that's when someone came up and asked if we were waited on and we politely told the waitress that we were going to another restaurant. She pleaded we stay and that they would make it right on the bill. I assured the waitress that it wasn't her fault as from what I could tell, it wasn't even her area of the restaurant. I commend her for trying to make it right and I hope she didn't get in trouble.
I see this as a manager's problem as they need to see the floor and notice why people aren't being served. I understand nights get busy, thats why I gave them a chance even though I had a reservation, we politely waited for 30 min before leaving.
I would have given a better rating, but as we left, a man by the door looked back at the waitress and stated "They will be back don't worry". I just chuckled. If you're that smug, I definitely don't feel quite as bad leaving this review.
I will say someone did try calling me from here, and I appreciate the reach out, but we were enjoying another fine meal by the time I got the call. Sorry it didn't work out tonight. Best of luck to...
Read moreNestled in a picturesque small town less than an hour from Pittsburgh, The Meredith Inn is an American restaurant that overlooks the scenic Allegheny River. This charming establishment has masterfully incorporated European influences into its cuisine and ambiance. My wife, who comes from Ukraine, was pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant of this caliber in small town America, and we were both truly impressed with our dining experience.
The food was exceptional - the ribs were tender and flavorful, the cod cooked to perfection, and the beet salad was delightful. Even the kids' pasta tasted like something you would find in a high-end Italian restaurant. The blood orange Old Fashioned was the perfect touch to round off our meal.
We are eager to return with larger appetites to try their French onion soup and some indulgent desserts. The prices were fair for the high quality of food and service we received. The family-owned and operated nature of this establishment is evident, making it a refreshing departure from chain restaurants.
The Meredith Inn's décor is charming, reminiscent of a home built in the 1800s, and its atmosphere is warm and welcoming. With its prime location overlooking the Allegheny River, this restaurant is worth traveling to and should be on your list if you're looking for a unique dining experience that showcases the best of American cuisine with a touch of European flair.
We can't wait to come back to this wonderful restaurant and enjoy the beautiful river views while savoring another exceptional culinary experience. I wholeheartedly recommend The Meredith Inn to anyone searching for an extraordinary dining experience in a quaint and scenic...
