AJ's Wood Grill Pizza — Restaurant in Kittery

We travel over an hour to AJ’s- this place is amazing!! We have multiple food allergies and always have eaten here safely. Our latest visit this past weekend was no exception. Everything is fresh, organic and farm to table. The pizza is phenomenal. Sandwiches, salads, soup, burgers wings but everything with a gourmet flare and exacting attention to detail. Presentation is exquisite. It’s a tiny little place with outdoor seating but the food quality, inventive flavors and beauty of presentation rival any fine restaurant. It was always good but my family commented to one another that the food is even more amazing now, better than it’s ever been. We found out when speaking to the folks who took our order that it is now under new ownership. It turned out that the people taking our order and cooking our food were the owners. You can never go wrong with a chef owned and operated establishment! The owners were very attentive and made a point of coming out to our outdoor table to be sure we liked our meals. The portions were huge - in fact the special chicken curry lemongrass soup was so large and filling we had to pack it up to go. It was a whole meal in and of itself which we enjoyed the next day. Ordered pizzas online Friday afternoon to be delivered Friday night at 6:00. At 6:30 they still hadn’t shown up so I called, I understand that on a Friday they are busy so I wasn’t upset just checking, 3 pizzas and 12 people waiting, was told that they were busy and pizzas were on the way. At 7:00 called again, sort of rude conversation and told again that the pizzas were on the way. At 7:30 I called again and was told that the driver had been stuck in someone’s driveway and they were in the way. When I said that this was the third time that I’d called and had been given the run around I was asked to hold on for a minute. When the man came back on the phone he told me my pizzas had been delivered to the wrong house. The wrong address? How does that happen? No real apologies no real anything. Made it seem that it wasn’t a big deal. An hour and a half late and nothing. Can’t really recommend AJ’s. Can’t tell you how the pizza was because we never got to eat it. I was asked if I wanted new pizzas made and delivered but by that point it was too far gone. I was told I’d be contacted when my refund was issued, which it was but I was never contacted. Poor...

VERY DISAPPOINTED-used to love the small town fabulius pizza and salads from here. Visited 10 days ago and ordered a salad with well done grilled chicken. It came out and chicken was not well done. Brought it to the counter and asked them to cook chicken more. Sat down and all of a sudden a VERY hostile woman came over and questioned what I wanted because she said the chicken was cooked through. I explained that I asked for it well done and there is a difference. She argued the point with me and finally I said "just take the chicken out the salad and serve me the salad plain." I also asked for the $4+ dollars that I was owed for the chicken back. She couldn't have cared less. In addition, the pizza slices that my husband and I ordered must have stuck to the bottom of the oven because when they came out they were missing half of the underside of the crust and were soggy, not crisp. We have always had great pizza here and all I can attribute this experience to was a lack of caring on the part of the staff.
