Beach Pea Baking Co — Restaurant in Kittery

Went to Beach Pea this past Friday for lunch with two friends. Two of us ordered sandwiches which contained chicken and the other had a salad w/o any meats. Both of us who consumed the sandwiches with chicken got VERY ILL after eating them. My friend ended up being taken to Portsmouth Hospital at 2am because of the severe level of gastric distress. She was diagnosed with food poisoning. I was equally as ill ALL weekend and struggled with the same symptoms of food poisoning. Today, I called Beach Pea Cafe/Bakery to notify them of this serious situation. The manager was either not wilingl or not open to taking my phone call, even though I let the person who answered know I was calling about a food poisoning incident caused by their food on Friday afternoon. I was told to send an email to the company, so I asked for the email address. I was told to look it up on their website. I let the person know that I was also notifying Kittery Board of Health about this very serious public health issue. It's very sad, as used to enjoy going to Beach Pea for sandwiches, coffee, tea, pastries and beautiful gardens.. I WILL NEVER RETURN and recommend the same to others, especially with their LACK OF CONCERN for the health and safety of their customers when their food caused food poisoning. Play it safe...there are plenty of excellent choices just over the bridge in...

The desserts at Beach Pea are so delicious our family now has a dessert date night! We look forward to this as a reason to try two new “treats” . Fougasse we could eat everyday and as it freezes well in the event we don’t get to it.. we’re never out of this hard to stop yourself from devouring the entire (and its BIG) bread. It’s perfectly oiled along with a hint of salt (sea salt possibly) and an aromatic rosemary flavor. Haven’t seen any actual rosemary on it but in all honesty it’s not around long enough to inspect! Goes well with everything and anything or alone. Yumm. Our favorite desserts so far are key lime cheesecake. They offer two sizes. We get the smaller to split between two of us but it could be split among 4 if it’s just to taste. Not heavy for a cheesecake with the perfect amount of key lime helps keep it from being overly sweet. The crust is a coconut base which adds another dimension making it a truly vibrant dessert. Definitely recommend this! These delicious yumkmies haven’t made it in time for photos to be taken. Looks like we’re going to have to sample more...

Tried to go there for lunch, they only allow 1 person from each party inside to place orders. Their menu requires multiple choices for bread, toppings, etc. there was no menu to look at outside or paper to write down each persons choices (that we could see) so when my daughter came in with me to look at the menu we got yelled at to leave by the girl behind the counter. I asked someone cleaning a table if she could tell me how we order or if they have options table side and she just said “no” and walked away. The staff seemed very stressed out and rude. I inquired about gluten free bread and they said I would have to buy an entire loaf of bread and they would make my sandwich from that. I understand restaurants are stressed and pushed beyond limits in these times. The rudeness of the staff and lack of information on how to order for 5 people was a big turnoff so we left and had a great...
