I've been a long time fan of Taco Johns. Specifically for their potato oles and donught bites. In my opinion the Taco Johns on Copeland avenue is by far much better than this one on Jackson. I just want to suggest. Change your fryer grease more than once a month please. Last time I was here I got the nastiest potato oles they were dark, extremely greasy and just left the worst taste in my mouth. The group I was with all felt the same way. Today I decided to try it out again at this one on Jackson. Same thing, dark, super greasy and left a nasty taste in my mouth. And this time my doughnut bites were absolutely disgusting as well. So you have my word I will not be returning to this Taco johns ever again. And you can bet your ass I will tell everyone I know about it too. Unless you can change something and can get them golden brown and delicious like the others. Maybe I'll give it another try in a month or so. But if I have the same results I will not be coming back. And I will tell everyone I know about your poor quality. One more tip. You should start using fresh...
Read moreMy family prefers taco John's over the other big name "Mexican" fast food chain. They do not have as large of a menu selection as TB, but they do have potato ole's. Which it is worth going just for those. They are like little tatter tots but with some great spices.
Now let's talk about the tacos. We think the meat has much better flavor and there is much more of it than TB. Also their hot sauces have much better flavor. I like to go for the green extra hot sauce, but just a little as I'm not a burn your taste buds so you can't taste the food wacko.
We have noticed that not all taco John's are the same. This one in La Crosse is great on filling the tacos with a good amount of meat and other fillings. They were definitely better than the one in Rochester MN. The service at all of them has been friendly, and quick food prep time. Other good TJ's in Wisconsin include Janesville...

Highlight of Taco John's for myself is the side dish of potato olés. This visit, the spice mixture was even over my order, no ultra salty sections or plain ones. Well done on that, makes or breaks the meal for me if I get a mouthful of salt at some point :)
Atmosphere is neat enough in the store, but Jackson and West Ave are directly outside, detracting substantially from the view with all of the types of traffic moving along them and into the park.. This is not Taco John's fault, but a City of La Crosse problem that Taco John's is unfortunately...
