We got there a little before closing time, and I was going to leave because I hate to keep someone late just on my account, but they welcomed us in with a smile and insisted we dine. Everything was still humming, two other couples still at tables, and a few older women enjoying a drink at the bar. We had a nice booth, and several TV's on the wall still on to watch. It used to be a Perkins, which is obvious from the existing booths and decor, but its been cleaned up impeccably, and had a "Mexican" flare added to the decor, its tasteful and relaxing and casual. Chips and Salsa - top notch, and i consider my self a bit picky on my Mexican restaurant Salsa. The menu has a ton of selection, and a tone of affordable selections. We had a Steak Burrito (4.95) & Cheese Quesidilla (2.75), and a Combo consisting of a Beef burrito / beef hard taco / beef enchilada covered in cheese sauce (7.00) soft drinks (1.75) Margharita's (3.95). Also I see a lunch menu with 12 combos under 5 bucks, and a kids menu with 10+ items under 4 bucks. The food came out as fast as lightning, and everything was absolutely DELICIOUS. Some of the best Mexican I have had in a long while. I'm back to the area visiting family, and the long standby favorite for the area is a place in the next town over El Pueblito's, but I tried El Rey and it is every bit as good or better, and has an affordable selection of high quality food. I'll be back again before I head home for sure. Also the service was great, even though it was closing up time she didn't let side work distract us and was properly attentive and did not hover at all. All around FANTASTICK! Thanks for a great meal El Rey!
Update: So, I went back today for lunch, and once again, delicious! Give it a try, you wont be...
Read moreWe ate there after riding all day and it was set up great to accommodate our large party. The salsa and cheese dip were great, but the chili Colorado was not like anywhere I've ever eaten it. It was basically unseasoned steak tips with a ragu tomato sauce poured in the middle. Every one I've ever had is cooked in a Colorado sauce that is brownish red. This was really like a can of cheap spaghetti sauce. I tried to soldier on and ate one tortilla with some in it, but the person I shared with didn't even try it. It was the first time I've ever left a huge plate of uneaten food I paid for sitting on the plate when we left, normally i box it up no matter what.
But I'm told by other folks in our party their chicken nachos were good, as were the chicken quesadilla.
It was nice that they were accommodating to muddy riders tho, so that's why we just paid and didn't complain. I feel bad about complaining now. I still recommend the place and I'd come again and try something other than the...
Read moreMy burrito came out cold and not completely correct might I add but I ate it anyways. My husband's meal was wrong, med rare steak came out well done but he ate it anyways. I had a margarita, not bad but not great. Neither of us complained about our food as we know things happen. At the end I asked for a "to go cup" for my lemon water, the waiter tells us "they will check your cup if you try to take your margarita." I responded with "ok" because I had no intentions on taking the margarita with me because I wasn't fond of it anyways. My husband decided to chug the rest of my drink (about 16 oz. left of a 32 oz. drink). As I go to the cash register to pay, the waiter comes up front and says "you can't take your margarita!" I said to him (very ticked off) "I didn't!" He says "I see that you did!" I pull the lid off my cup and tell him "I have water with lemon". He quickly walked away and did not say anything. DO NOT accuse me of something I did not do!!! Will...
