Discovered this wonderful bakery a year ago. On our return trip to the area, we made a planned stop at Weikel’s Bakery, on the west side of LaGrange, TX. As lifetime Texan’s, we have enjoyed eating kolache’s, located in a variety of communities throughout the state; however, in our opinion, Weikel’s are THE BEST! They are soft & generously topped with a variety of fruit & cream cheese fillings. The selection is impressive, and please try their sweet rolls or variety of other baked confections. We have eaten their delicious sandwiches, made with their own bread, so we also purchase a loaf of bakery bread. The bakery has perfected bread dough, used in all of their baked goods, & we proclaim it to be “melt-in-your-mouth” delicious. Weikel’s is a combination gas station, convenience store & bakery, always clean, with reasonably timed service, yes, at “peak” business hours, there can be a wait. Expect to be greeted by friendly employees & to walk out with a bag or two of delicious...
Read moreMy wife ordered a baked potato online for her lunch break. She wanted to save time & order it online so all she had to do was pick up & pay then she could go about enjoying her food & break time like everyone else. She got there 20 minutes after placing the order. Plenty of time to prep a baked potato right? Well when she got in & got to the pick up line at the deli the employees had no clue about her order & didn’t know what she was talking about. They told her to wait while they tracked down her order…20 minutes later after waiting for an answer one of the deli workers finally told her “Oh we put it up at the front for you.” So they waisted 40 minutes of her lunch break over a baked potato. What a joke. We won’t be back, we’ll just go to Texas One Stop where it doesn’t take 40 minutes to get a baked potato that was ordered online ahead of time. Thanks Weikels. One less place in town for us to spend...
Read moreThis place kind of caught us off guard as we didn’t realize it was part of the gas station complex they own. But SO glad we tried it out. Had seen it recommended on Daytripper. We each ordered a Reuben sandwich. It came with chips. We also tried the potato and ham soup - best we’ve ever had!! They had the most delicious small crackers they served with it - ranch flavored but with a little kick from red pepper flakes. A Texas thing I guess & yummy. The sandwiches were delicious! Tender meat, great bread made there. To cap it off, we tried a piece of their pie. Chocolate cream with meringue. Yum!!! (Forgot to get a pic we ate it so quick lol). Don’t be afraid of the gas station vibe - it is well worth a stop! Plenty of goodies to take home too: breads, kolaches, noodles & more. Nice outdoor...
