Our new go-to local pho spot! We stopped by after my wife saw the restaurant featured in a TT video. Best perks for us, it's close by and it's in a quieter area, away from the hustle and bustle of retail and restaurant plazas. The downfall is that the parking lot can get full really fast. There's a coffee shop, a martial arts studio, and a really good teriyaki restaurant in the same side of the plaza, for crying out loud.
When we first started going, they used to be closed on Tuesdays - found out the hard way - but they're now showing open every day of the week, except some major holidays - found out the hard way too - big big plus!
Restaurant itself is a little small, there's an ordering kiosk at the front, and I believe they take orders at the counter too. There are a few tables for dine-in options, but you may be very close to other guests. Restroom is in the rear.
One of the many perks is that you get free tea from the dispenser or a can of soda (maybe both?) The menu is unique in their own way, as they call their dish styles "formats" (noodles, rice, sandwiches, etc). Another perk is that noodle refills are included. Their spring rolls are open ended, not wrapped like most are, which allows the insides to soak more of the dipping sauce - which wasn't that great...but the intent is there. I wasn't impressed by their banh mi, but it wasn't really what I went there for in the first place.
The broth....delicious. It's one of the few pho broths that I've had that didn't/doesn't require lime, hoisin or sriracha. The flavor it has is delicious enough....although you're more than free to add whatever to your dish! They offer the pho in traditional bowls, but their other noodles, sandwiches and sides come in the light tan/brown cardboard food bowls/clamshells, so they will get soggy if there's a lot of juice in your food.
Once you're done, you can either pay at the kiosk or pay at the counter. Each time we've gone, they've actually come to us to process the payment at our table. Stop on by, say hi to the friendly people there, and enjoy...
Read moreWe wanted to try this new place and stopped by on a Saturday around 2 pm. We ordered egg roll appetizers and drinks. The egg rolls were very crispy but not a fan of the sauce that came with the order. We asked for some peanut sauce which was tasty. The cucumber lemonade was tart but gift; however when we asked for a second drink it was disappointing to receive less drink as they account for the ice space. The garlic noodles were good and the shrimp size was decent. We did ask for chicken on the side which was given. The service was very friendly and answered our questions. Where we found the facility lacked was clearing the table of empty dishes and we had to place them on the next table. The waitress also only came over once to check on us but didn’t give us our bill and I had to go ask for it. Also the bowls are paper so it soaks up the garlic sauce of our noodles. There’s little parking so it challenging to get a spot. The place itself is small but nicely decorated with a bathroom in the back area. Most likely not a placed we’d...
Read moreI eat pho once a week. I go around trying pho places in the pursuit of finding the best pho in SoCal.
I tried An a week ago, and I’m back again the 2nd week.
I always note every pho place I go to and give them a rating in my notes. Pho places are lucky to get a 7 or 8 out of 10 from me. I’ve given “popular” pho places 0 out of 10 before.
My rating for An is a solid 9 out of 10 for the pho. It has that more trendy taste I’ve been noticing more of these days, so if you’re not a fan of that, this place would score lower. But if you are a fan, then my rating stands.
The only places I usually give higher than a 9 are the ones that taste homemade or homely. Different than the average restaurant experience. This place isn’t that, but for non homeley vibes, this is some of the best pho you’ll find. Especially for the price, amount, taste, etc.
Highly recommend you check it out. I can’t speak for the non pho items as I strictly eat pho. 🍜
I have no photos to share because as I write this I already...
