This is my friend's favourite Mexican restaurant because she says it's very authentic. So of course for her birthday we came here for dinner! I'm not sure if they regularly take reservations (Yelp says no) or if they made an exception (since we were a group of 11), but we had a reservation for our group on Friday night 2 weeks ago. The restaurant is pretty easy to find and is located in a plaza with a decent amount of parking.
They started us all off with water and complimentary chips and green salsa. The salsa had a kick to it but it was good with the chips. We all got the Queso Fresco (Fresh Cheese) to share as appetizers. You can get a full order of cheese with six corn tortillas for $7.50 or a half order for $4.75. I had to have my friend explain to me how to eat it. She slices the cheese and then puts it in a piece of corn tortilla that she tears off, pours some of the green salsa over the cheese, and then eats it together. I tried it and it was pretty good! I didn't think it was as amazing as some of the others in my group but it was enjoyable.
For my entree I got their Shrimp Enchiladas. The entree comes with three enchiladas and rice and beans. I asked them for no beans, paid extra to make it shrimp (usually choose between beef or chicken), and also requested a side of guacamole ($4.99). The guacamole comes out in a pretty large bowl and is freshly handmade. It's delicious, has cheese sprinkled on top, and is definitely worth paying more for if you love guacamole like I do! :D The enchiladas were pretty good; I enjoyed my entire entree.
At the end of our meal they brought out a flan for the birthday girl with a lit candle and everyone sang Happy Birthday to her! Then they sang the Mexican version of it... where I just smiled and clapped along :P They even put a sombrero on her head during the song so it was cute and a lot of fun. We all got to share the flan with her and it was good. And afterwards they gave us all split checks so that was very convenient. While I probably won't be back (the food wasn't amazing and I also never find myself in this area), I'm giving them four stars because they provided us with a great enjoyable birthday meal for my friend and we all had...
Read more3 stars because the food is absolutely delicious, they have 2 locations, this particular location has awful Customer service. My family and I got here between 10am-10:30am. This place wasn't very busy when we got here but got busier within about 30 min. We noticed our waitress was working by herself but only for a short amount of time, she sat us down and walked away, then more employees (more waitresses) began to come in and she still hadn't come to our table to take our order after waiting 25 min, I had to get up and flag her down. So she came and took our order. We got our food fairly quick (15 min) but our waitress didn't bring our food, the cashier did, we asked her for refills on our coffee, because our waitress hadn't come back at all to refill our coffee, she didn't come back at all throughout our entire stay! When we were through with our breakfast I again, had to play where's waldo, I found her folding boxes behind the counter! 😣 I asked her for the check, she brings it and gladly picks it up within 3 minutes. She of course was gonna be quick to pick up her 2 cent tip, I'm sure at some point she asked herself why she got that amount but I'm sure she wasn't surprised. Overall, the food was delicious, hand made tortillas are great and so are the chips and 3 different salsas. I will not be returning to this La Poblana location, I will stick to they're original location. Food is very authentic. If you go to this location, make sure you don't get the waitress with the silver eye-shadow and rainbow colored eyelashes, she really had rainbow eyelashes on, not that I care but that's how you'll know who she is and ask not to have her as your waitress but to each his own. The atmosphere is good, a little cold if you go in the morning so bring a jacket, its all tile in there, makes it colder, with lots of beautiful Mexican pictures and other...
Read moreWell this was one of our authentic Mexican cuisine restaurants to go to. My wife and I have been coming here for around the last 9 years. This was my mother-in-laws favorite being many of the waitresses were from her home state of Jalisco México. The atmosphere, the service, waitresses and food are all excellent until last week. My wife and a friend went there for lunch. Her friend is also from Mexico but from the DF Mexico City. Well they ordered their food and asked for a side of queso fresco. When their waitress on duty ( the manager) brought the side of queso, there was a fly literally stuck to the bottom of the cheese! They called it to the attention of the waitress (manager) and she came and said “oh it must of flew on the cheese after?!” My wife tells her no, it is stuck underneath the cheese, like it was on the plate and the cheese was placed on top of the fly?!” So the waitress gets a knife and cuts the slice with fly on it pushes it to the side and says do you still want the other part?!” NO!!! Please take it away! First off I am sorry but that was our last trip to this place not only due to the fly in the cheese but more so the manager’s attitude and then to top it off ask would you still want the other piece.. Lord help me! Can’t believe she’s the manager and instead of apologizing and not charging for the meals, she acted as if it’s a common thing to do. Sorry not here. I just imagine who ended up with the cheese, I don’t think she threw it away and just took the fly out and served it to someone else....
