Mr. Mike's Place — Restaurant in Lacon

I’ve been going to Mr. Mikes places since 2019. From 2019-2021 it was amazing. The service was great, the food was great, the whole place was very clean. But since then, from 2022-present, it’s been a lot different. The service has gone downhill, we will call 3-4 times to get through at some points, when we do get food from here, they’re usually out of burgers or gyro meat or chicken strips. Soda fountain is completely out of order and has been for the last 5 months that we’ve come in. The tables have a sticky/greasy feel to them, yes it not supposed to be a 5 star restaurant, it’s just a little place to be able to get a bite to eat while out on the river. But even the food is questionable sometimes, you wonder if it’s going to go right through you or if you’ll break a tooth on the overcooked...

Extremely poor service. The staff was incredibly rude and disrespectful. After waiting nearly 30 minutes for an order that shouldn't have taken very long at all, I returned to the counter to inquire about my order and the woman claimed (with a demeaning tone) that she had called my name and that I clearly wasn't listening. The business was by no means busy and I had been sitting at a table not 10ft away from her the entire time. When I finally got my order, the food was soggy and lukewarm and had clearly been sitting for quite some time. Traveling repairman who tries to frequent the "local spots" I rate this a 5 star place for good local cafe food. And a wide menu. I tried the cheesy beef with fries and coleslaw it was a good choice and plenty of food for the money. Service was quick and friendly. Quick turn around on making the order and a quaint place to meet. It's nice that the park is beside the parking lot and perfect view of the illinois river. Most importantly the establishment is LOCALLY OWNED and OPERATED by what appears to be conscious business owners. Will definitely be stopping back when I'm back...
