The English Room captivates with its authentic atmosphere, transporting you straight into old England. The elegant interior, cozy setting, and pleasant lighting create the perfect space for relaxation or a special evening. Service deserves a top-notch rating — 5/5. The staff is attentive, polite, and efficient, ensuring every guest feels well taken care of. Food: 3.5/5. The menu offers interesting options, but the dishes didn’t fully impress. It feels like the kitchen has much more potential, and with slight adjustments to the recipes, the culinary experience could be elevated significantly. Packaging: 3/5. For takeout orders, the packaging could be improved — a more practical and stylish solution would enhance the experience. Overall impression: an unforgettable place to visit, but there’s room for improvement. It leaves the feeling that this establishment has great potential to become a true gem of the region. Although The English Room provides an authentic atmosphere and excellent service, I had a troubling experience during my visit. After my meal, the waiter added a tip to my bill without my consent. This was done without any indication in the menu, which is illegal. I plan to file a formal complaint with the appropriate authorities about this matter. Be cautious, as such actions cast serious doubt on the honesty of the staff. This unfortunate incident overshadowed what could have been an enjoyable experience.

English teatime was fun and flavorful. The Castleton beat the Cherry Fig but to each one's own and there are more teas to try. Very thoughtful to receive a dietary restriction call the day before our reservation. Fantastic table service overall and very American, meaning friendly and upbeat (was this how service was in the 1920s?). Don't be surprised if the manager visits your table to see how you're doing. At first I thought she thought we were unhappy but, no, all tables had gotten that considerate visitation. The valet parking was free but bring cash for the tip. Lovely interior. Does it remind one of something in England? Depends on what part. It's not something in Hyde Park London, which had a brighter, more twinkly, more formal atmosphere but, with our upbringings, lesser-appreciated finger sandwiches. Lighting and décor here instead elicited a mashup of a very clean, upscale yet Midwestern-comfy Rye, NY restaurant. Teatime reservations were booked for December 2025. There's a waitlist for openings in case of any cancellation/s.

Our first experience at this place and we were let down. Our waiter did apologize at the end of the meal and give us a free desert. But, from the amazing recommendations and reviews we had much higher expectations. I’m 6 months pregnant so I’m not drinking but my husband is. I ordered a non-alcoholic Paloma and my husband an old fashioned. My drink looked very festive, but took literally 3 sips and it was empty because it was all ice. We were very surprised also once we got the bill and it costs exactly the same as the old fashioned that had alcohol. Very confused what we paid for. We ordered the spicy calamari for an appetizer which tasted great, then French onion soup. While we were eating the calamari the waiter took our entree order. Props to the kitchen for speed because just a few minutes later the entrees arrived while we were still finishing the calamari and didn’t have the soup yet. The waiter had also forgotten the sprite I asked for because my “mocktail” was already empty. They took the entrees back and we had the soup, so maybe about 25-30 mins after we first saw the entrees they brought them back out on extremely hot plates. They were obviously kept under the heat lamp and not made new. My husband got the filet and it was good. I got the duck, and it was lukewarm. The duck could’ve been cooked better because the fat on it was chewy and I could barely cut it with my knife. All in all, a disappointing experience for what’s supposed to be one of the nicest restaurant in the NorthShore. The free desert was a piece of chocolate cake with a scoop ice cream. Ice cream was great,...

I’ve had a horrible experience customer service wise with The English Room and Deer Path Inn. I called in end of January to make a reservation for afternoon tea for two for March to celebrate my 40th birthday. I realized the date I reserved I had a conflict with so I called shortly to reschedule the date. The person I talked to said no problem they had a opening two weeks later on March 16th and I said perfect I’ll take it. I received a text confirmation for my original reservation date which I thought was odd. Which makes me think my reservation might not have been changed. I called The English Room, three times and left three messages….. No reply to any of my messages. I called the front desk of the Deer Path Inn today and they told me perhaps my messages were inaudible or maybe my voicemail was full….. neither are true. The person today took my name and phone number and told me they would call me back with further information on my reservation. Surprise, surprise never heard anything back. I’m incredibly disappointed. I just wanted to have a high tea for two to celebrate my birthday and instead I’m dealing with the worst customer...
