Terrible first impressions. My son has been a fan of Cheesie's since he was a little kid. He and my wife would go there occasionally on their mom-and-son outings, and it became a special place for them. I had never been, so I let them have that tradition. Four years ago, we moved to Berwyn, which made their trips into the city less frequent. When we heard Cheesie's was opening a location nearby, minutes from Berwyn, my wife and son were thrilled, and I was excited to join them for the first time. We went this past weekend for the Grand Opening.
We arrived around 2 to 2:30 PM on Saturday, and it wasn’t very busy—just a few people at the bar and three families or groups on the dining side. The moment we walked in, it felt off. No one greeted us, so we walked up to the counter by the menu and register, but again, no greeting. The gentleman at the register was ringing someone out and gave us a look of annoyance. He seemed to be the only one working the front and didn’t say a word to us, even as he passed by several times. When we tried to speak to him, he zipped by without acknowledging us. As a couple walked in and stood behind us, a small crowd began to form. He then muttered, "it’s going to be a while," without giving us a chance to respond.
We wanted to order to go, but no one asked if we were dining in or taking out. He could have at least acknowledged us and let us know if he’d take our order soon or seated us. There were plenty of seats available. We waited for about 20-25 minutes with hardly a word spoken to us. Eventually, we decided to leave. The entire time, we didn’t feel welcomed or properly addressed. My wife mentioned that this was not the same experience she had at the Wicker Park location. It was truly disappointing. I am particularly surprised that the owners allowed this man to manage the whole front by himself during a supposed Grand Opening. There was nothing grand about it. The issue wasn’t the wait; it was the lack of service and hospitality. Maybe it was an off day or just bad timing, but for a Grand Opening, I expected better from an established business like Cheesie's. We might visit again in a few months, hoping for a...
Read moreI went in on 11/06/2024 at around 6:53pm to order a couple sandwiches for my family and I.This was my first time coming in so l was very excited. As I enter I see a worker with Red hair and glasses. I go over and inform her this is my first time in am I able to place an order for pick up with you? She ignores me when I asked her that question. I asked her again thinking she didn't hear me. She then goes to her register/ computer and just looks at me without saying anything. So I proceed to take that as a yes and order some sandwiches. I asked her if i can have 2 Frenchies and if one of them can have marinara sauce since they usually come with sauce. Once again this is my first time in i've been to the other locations before in La grange and Wrigley and the sandwiches come with a sauce. For the specific sandwich I get it comes with sour cream I wanted to switch it to mariana sauce. So I asked her if I can get that type of sauce she interrupts me very rudely and raises her tone of voice and says "IT DOESN'T COME WITH SAUCE". At this point Im thinking to myself this lady is either having a bad day or is racist since I am hispanic. So whatever I continue my order I see a sign that states $1 for the OG sandwich for the grand opening. l asked her if I can get that and if that's the correct sandwich for the deal. She continues to raise her voice and says "GIVE ME THE CODE!" I told her I don't have a code how do I get one? She told me If you would read the sign it says to scan the code. She then proceeds to walk away from me and assist someone at the bar .At this point I didn't want to order anything so I just left as soon as she walked away from me. This is the worst customer service l've ever experienced! I wish I would have seen the reviews before going in ! The name of the worker is Kara. She has red hair and glasses.I do not recommend anyone to come to this location. I really hope that Kara lady is having a better day. That attitude will not get her...
Read morei usually visit cheesies like two or three times a week, once with the family and two with friends towards the night time. upon arrival, the place smells like a sewage trap. there’s always so many flies around. the food was good, way over priced for grilled cheese. took like 25 minutes just for two grilled cheese and tots. however there’s a specific bartender, kinda new, that gives nothing but attitude, she’s an older skinny short lady. i believe her name was karen or cara maybe. first she wears booty shorts, this is a family friendly place i don’t want to stare at your no cheeks. secondly, why can’t i ask a question without her walking away after hearing the first word? like let me finish and make up something if you don’t care. i can’t ask for a drink without her suggesting i get a different drink cause she doesn’t want to make it or “they don’t have the right stuff to make that”. what happen to the other two kid bartenders julian and lilah? at least they talk to people. make us laugh. i usually come to cheesies at night and it’s either lilah or julian and lilah usually has the vibes going. with the lights, the music, even the mario kart at the bar tvs. i went the other night and the older white lady was there and it was around 11 and she still had the lights really white all bright and the music was like old people music. real low too. we asked if she could change the music and was told no it’s set to a specific playlist. that’s a lie, the other bartenders take request since there’s no touch tunes machine. if they keep her around this place will go down for sure, she does not belong in customer service....
