I am so disappointed at Pticek’s Bakery. I have been going to this bakery for years and have been pleased with their cakes. I traveled over an hour away just to purchase my birthday cakes from them. They always confirm what’s to be written on the cake and explain everything in detail to me. I was informed by the bakery’s owner that the person who took the order transcribed the information I gave to her incorrectly, thus creating an error in a cake that I was charged for in full prior to picking it up. I was on my way to my son’s birthday party and managed my time accordingly, as I traveled far away to pick up my son’s favorite cake, and was going to leave the bakery and head to my son’s party.
When I arrived to pick up my cake, they made an error in the “name”, attempted to correct their mistake, and made an even bigger ERROR that was visible when they used a different color frosting in the writing that made the error more obvious. In attempting to correct it a THIRD time, they informed me I had to wait close to half an hour for them to correct their mistake, resulting in my being late for my own son’s birthday.
I am so disappointed this occurred and more upset that this approximately $100 cake ended up looking like a disaster with the birthday celebrant’s name was spelled incorrectly and in trying to remedy the situation THREE times was told I had to wait awhile for them to fix the mistake.
Unbelievable that you pay good money to receive quality service and in return either get garbage or have to wait...
Read moreI came here in good faith and referral that they could help do a cake for me. When I arrived, the were 3 women, 1 was running the bread slicer, the other two were behind the counter. Nobody greeted me, so I loudly asked can someone help me. I was looking to have 2 individual cakes made size 8 inches in a color blue buttercream icing. Right, not difficult. I wanted it for a Moana themed party. The first lady, spoke with a heavy accent showed me the design they do and the cake toppers they offer for my theme. I didn't like them and preferred to use my own decorations. I think that offended her. She quickly left and then the second lady who was very gracious and helpful as she could be tried assisting. Unfortunately for me, I took it that the first lady was the actual cake decorator since the second lady had to go ask her my questions. Needless to say, I could hear from behind the wall how annoyed the decorator was when I asked if they could do two colors of icing, when the second woman asked (I didn't ask her to ask this) if the cakes could get filling, the decorator starting raising her voice saying we can't do that, they are too small, she can't get fillings on them what does she expect they are to small. The second lady came out, I see that she was embarrassed because she could tell I heard everything. I said thank you but I'll call if I need to please the order. No thank you, I will never go to this place not even...
Read moreThis is a family-owned Croatian bakery that has been around since 1943, serving the Garfield Ridge neighborhood in Chicago. If you want a good selection of pastries, get there early; otherwise, you'll have very slim pickings toward the end of the day. They have some of the very best tasty Bohemian kolackys, donuts, apple strudels, and many more delicious pastries. I especially like the apple strudel with cheese inside and the sour cream cheesecakes. I personally think that you can't go wrong with anything here. I just wish they had everything labeled with the name of the pastry and the price so you wouldn't have to consistently ask the employees. If you're looking for a birthday cake or a cake for any other special occasion, they've got you covered. By the way, the employees are very friendly and familiar with...
