Went to Hartville Kitchen on 5/9/2024 for dinner. My mother-in-law enjoys their home cooked meals, so we were taking her to dinner. We were met with a pleasant hostess who seated us in a booth that was clean. So good start! Then greeted by a server who took our drink order and our food order (Pretty basic order....... Chicken Tenders with Jo Jo's , BBQ Pork Sandwich with Fries, and Chicken Alfredo Dinner (Special) She too was pleasant!
Ok so good start, so why the poor rating? Well that was the last time we saw her.......
We sat there and drank our drinks, and the beverage lady continued to come and provide us refills. 30 minutes went by and still no dinner rolls we are supposed to get with our meals and no dinner salads. My wife tells the beverage lady "we haven't gotten rolls, or salads and its been 30 minutes". The helpful lady went to check with our server. We could see them talking in the kitchen and while we could not hear what they were saying, it was clear by the servers reaction as she looked at her order pad and put her hand to her forehead, she forgot about us and our order.
We are reasonable people and mistakes happen, but she never came to our table to explain or offer an explanation. Instead the beverage lady returned to our table with dinner rolls and salad. Proceeded to tell us she checked on our ticket and we should be getting our food soon.
Fast forward, at this point now it has been 50 minutes , the tables around us who were seated after us are now eating their dinners. The beverage lady came by again and we asked where our server was because we hadn't seen her since she brought our drinks? What is taking so long with our food? She proceeded to tell us that when she checked, they had run out of alfredo sauce for the alfredo chicken. Ok? So why are we finding this out 55 minutes later? Why has our waitress failed to come back to our table? Why was this not communicated with us prior? Or asked if we would like a replacement choice? No explanation and no indication on how they were rectifying this and no indication when the food would be ready.
We asked to speak to the Manager. Manager never came to our table. We saw the Beverage lady (who was trying to help us all night) speaking to the Cashier, so we asked a bus boy where the manager was and he pointed to the Cashier. After an hour, we decided to leave at this point and since you exit by the Cashier, we stopped to talk to her. We explained what had occurred, the time we had been waiting, the lack of communication (other than the beverage lady....who was trying to be as helpful as possible), and the fact our server never came back to our table after providing us with our drinks. We explained we were simply leaving and likely not to return.
The Manager offered a verbal apology and asked if there was anything she could do.....I commented jokingly, sure, how about comp a pie for my mother-in-law. Her comment back was, "oh I cannot do that, but I can give her a piece". A piece of pie for our poor service, our wasted time, lack of communication, and never receiving our food we ordered and never got a explanation as to what had occurred.
We use to like this place......fair prices, good service, good food. Service was by far the worst I have ever experienced there or anywhere (other than the beverage lady), and then even when taken to a Manager, offered no explanation, or really tried to reasonably rectify the situation for a displeased customer experience.
Not an experience that welcomes a return visit to the The Kitchen.
Gave it a 1 Star on the sheer fact that one person tried to help (Beverage Lady), couldn't rate the food because we never received it. Just would've been nice to know the truth of what had happened and why our server never came back to the...

Read moreI have eaten here many times and have NEVER had bad service or food! Sometimes, there is a wait. However, it goes pretty fast. This past time wasn't a long line. It was a Saturday at about 6 pm. It took maybe 20 minutes to be seated. The staff is very efficient and friendly! They were always coming around to refill our water/drinks. I love to eat here rather than an Amish buffet The noodles in they buffet are always so mushy. I ordered the roast beef dinner, which includes 3 sides. I had their mashed potatoes, noodles, and a salad. It was hot and delicious! Also, they bring warm rolls out, I think we went through 2 baskets...lol. I love bread! Someone had the porkchop dinner and pork roast dinner. Everyone was extremely satisfied! Overall, if you get a chance, you have to try Hartville Kitchen out! If there is a long line, and you are with a group, take turns visiting their great bakery- not only pies, cookies, cakes, but you can get cheeses, popcorn, cooking utensils, teas, dish towels, different olive oils, and so much more! Hartville Collectibles Shop located in the building is a great stop, too! There are so many unique things! I did include some pictures of the bakery and shop. Sorry, my photos are kind...
