I used to go to 8 1/2 on strawberry Street because they had the best subs on torpedo rolls made by flour garden.
About 5 years ago or so the restaurant switched to a cheap sub roll akin to Subway, and I stopped buying subs from them.
ThoseThose to rolls were phenomenal with a little bit of pull and chewc and they never got soggy, and now the rolls used are nothing close to the quality of those torpedo rolls that seem nowhere in existence now, and has completely changed the product.

They claim to bake their bread every morning fresh but it tastes like it has been sitting in a freezer for weeks! Gross. False advertising. If you come across their bread don't waste your money. Talked to gut that used to work there and he said they would bake their bread days before and then freeze it and sometimes just leave it sitting out and that the bakery itself is dirty and their equipment is not cleaned or well...
Read moreFlour Garden is my favorite Richmond bakery. Their hoagie and sub rolls are soft, yet sturdy and perfect for sandwiches. Their sweets, like the cinnamon rolls are flaky and incredibly tasty (and big) .
