Country style breakfast at it's finest. HUGE pancakes! Love the blueberry ones. Kind of wish they used fresh berries for the strawberry ones too. Frozen strawberries are too watery. But just order the strawberries on the side, and not on top of the pancakes, and problem solved. Also, ordering a scoop of vanilla ice cream with the strawberry pancakes, and you've got breakfast and dessert all rolled up into one. 😋 His eggs benedict is first rate. I always order it with soft poached eggs though, because if I don't, it may not come that way. Gotta have that yolk come running out. Hollandaise is fresh, homemade and delicious. I always order a side of his homemade hash with it. Extremely high flavor, with a hint of spice. I would love to make it myself if I knew the recipe. Yes, it's THAT GOOD! Also, when buying a breakfast order that comes with toast. Skip the regular toast, and pay just a little extra for the homemade toast. It's thicker sliced, and you can taste that it was baked in house. I always get the blueberry or the apple cinnamon raisin swirl. It's worth the extra money. Personally, I don't know why he just doesn't make all of his bread from scratch. I would love to see that for his sandwiches. Make white, whole wheat, marble rye, maybe some hearty oatmeal, or a nice multigrain with sunflower seeds. Finally, I would love in the summertime, to see a nice lobster 🦞 salad roll on a buttered grilled top split hot dog roll, with some crisp iceberg lettuce or maybe some delicate butter lettuce, and also a "Maine Benedict." Which would be sautéed buttered lobster meat, with soft poached eggs, Hollandaise, on puff pastry cups, with a little fresh dill and chive. Just a few suggestions. I'd be dining even more. 😊
Update: my wish came true!!! Michael has officially put a lobster 🦞 roll, and a Lobster Benedict on his weekday, and weekend menu. Lobster Benny is only available on Saturday and Sunday. But I have tried it, and it is a solid 10 in my book. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍Order it with an extra side of his AMAZING Hollandaise sauce. It's worth the extra $3.99. Lobster Roll is just as good. Chock-full of lobster meat, in a nicely buttered and toasted hot dog roll, with a little lettuce. Perfect!!! So Happy 😊!!! Thank you so much Michael for adding those two items for the summer. I'll be...
Read moreEverything about this restaurant is a true delight. From the dead & stuffed bear cub greeting you in the foyer to the obviously Tropicana orange juice.
The decor: Oh, where to begin. I suppose I could start with the signed poster of a young beauty pageant winner, or perhaps the plaque reading "There are two theories to arguin' with a woman. Neither one works." Every inch of their walls are adorned with taxidermied black bears, moose, mountain lions, and pictures of the owners posing with the just-killed animals. There's general game hunting, then there's trophy hunting. Not one grizzly bear, but two.
The food & service: Our server was pretty young, so there's almost no point in complaining about both our drink & food orders being incorrect. The majority of the food quality was mediocre at best, and not once did anyone come by to give us a coffee refill. Their stuffed french toast was soggy, and the fruit looked & tasted like it'd sat in the fridge for a week. The scrambled eggs were just sad. The ONE thing I enjoyed were the biscuits. But, even good biscuits don't justify a $50 breakfast bill and an uplifting conversation with my 6-year-old about...
Read moreThis was an unexpected surprise. Ample parking and a well maintained exterior welcome you, and the large volume of cars suggested it's a popular spot. Interior design is very country, with lots of wood and a wide assortment of game (bears, moose, you name it) visible throughout the place. It's informal - you're greeted by signs of 'seat yourself', and the menus are at the table when you do. Wait staff was friendly and very prompt in providing us with coffee and juice. First great surprise - the coffee is truly excellent - fragrant and bold, but not bitter or burnt, and very clearly fresh. And then there's the food. We had omelettes and a waffle, and they were nothing short of great! Eggs were moist and fluffy, veggies fresh and soft but with just the right crispness left in them. Very rich flavor, but not heavy on fat or salt. One of the better omelettes I've had in years. The waffle was excellent too, with just the right balance between crisp and fluffy, and delicious. This place is a real winner and most certainly worth a return visit. They have chosen to excel where it matters most: great, enjoyable,...
