Shirley's Cafe & Tequila Bar — Restaurant in Laureldale

Service is usually poor but the food makes up for the wait staff. Sunday Nov 15, we went for dinner and the food was awful. Burger was to be medium well but came out way over well done. Burger burnt and dry as well as the mushrooms burnt as well. Pork Burrito was not very good and very dry. It appeared to be microwaved. Waitress asked about burger and I told her the truth and showed her how burnt it was.she Insisted I order something else so I ordered a quesadilla (chicken) which is a usually out of the world. It was worse then the burger! It was not how you typically receive their quesadilla. Chicken was a different flavor and it appeared to be chipped chicken for a chicken cheese steak instead of a grilled chicken filet.The worse of it was that it had a tiny bit of cheese and it normally is smothered in melted cheese. I ate one part of it and that’s it. Ordered tortilla chips special as appetizer- several of the chips stale. Croutons in Cesar salad had stale ones in every other bite. Lots of people state the place is hit or miss and we have always thought it was a hit until this experience. The chef said he chopped the chicken for the quesadilla as this is how they normally do it when they are not busy. Say what? It was chipped and why would they make it different then the normal dish. I just moved about 7mins from this place, and I was super excited because it looked Awesome online. Well not the experience I had unfortunately. We had 4 in My group. Got a table promptly, which happened to be right next to the server station. Big mistake on that table. The servers were bickering, constantly bumping into us, and never bothered to say excuse me, or sorry at all. We ordered 3 different kinds of tacos. 1. Beef 2. Steak. 3. Pork! Every single Taco we got was super bland... like they just cooked the meat, and were like hmm forget seasoning, let's just pile a crap load of lettuce, and tomatoes on it. Even tho 2 of us asked for No tomatoes. The only thing that saved the night was Our server who seemed to be the only 1 that wasn't in the weeds, and rude. And the Miller lites were like $1.50. I will probably only go back for cheap beer, but not to eat. I mean it's Tacos... literally 1 of the easiest things to make, and taste good. I'd love to try it again,...

I have gone to Shirley's Cafe at least a number of times a month over the last 5 years. Since the new owners took over I have definitely seen a decline in service and food quality. Was there this evening and ordered a simple bistro steak sandwich. The meat, mushrooms, onions and cheese was good, but then they placed it on a bun (made by them) that was a complete rock. I would have asked for new bread but their bread they made had no taste, so I just ate the insides. When the waitress cleared my plate, I told her the steak and stuff was good but then they placed on nasty bread. Told her to feel the hardness of the bread and she said she was going to talk to the chef about it as she took my plate. Then I watched her immediately throw it in the trash instead of delivering plate so chef could see the hardness. Pretty sure she said nothing to chef, why wouldn't you just show him? I am going to give that place a hefty break, there are so many other good places that...
