We were excited to check out La Grekkaās new location at Lawrence Riverwalk, since weāre big fans of their Essex Street spot. The place was definitely lively and had a good crowd, which was nice to see.
We started off by ordering hot caramel cappuccinos, the girl at the register was super friendly, which was a great start. While waiting, we went to look for a seat inside (it was pretty warm out). A few tables were being cleared, so we headed in that direction. Just as we sat down, a lady came over and asked if we were part of āthe event.ā We had no idea there was an event happening, and when we said no, she let us know the table was reserved and weād have to move. That threw us off a bit, especially since there were no signs or anything saying certain tables were reserved. Wouldāve been helpful to have a heads up.
Since there werenāt any open tables inside, we sat outside. We found a couple of seats, though they were kind of awkwardly placed, facing other tables. When the coffees were brought over, the server asked for a number plaque which we never got. I told her I only had my receipt and she said it was fine. Not a big deal, but it added to the bit of confusion.
The cappuccinos were okay, but not as hot as weāre used to at their other location.
All in all, I was hoping to hang out a bit longer, maybe order something else, but it ended up feeling a little hectic because of the event. Iād just suggest putting up some signage when thereās something going on so customers know what areas are reserved ahead of time.
Still love La Grekka and definitely plan to come back despite this visit having a few bumps. Looking forward to giving it another shot! I will submit another...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLoved the dark decor - the pops of color and eclectic art choices gave off whimsy vibes in a hipster-meets-modern-goth good way! 0900 Saturday morning seemed prime time, but despite the line out the door, the traffic moved quickly and there was surprisingly ample seating both inside and outside. My only complaint is that with ten distinct table areas outside, there really should be more than three umbrellas - especially considering the cafe gets direct morning sun. In terms of food and service, the espresso shot was smooth, the lemon burst cake was light, the French toast was perfectly powdered, and the staff's french-inspired look was both welcoming and funāš«š· Pastry and coffee prices were on par with I'd expect for this kind of eatery, however the breakfast and lunch options seemed pricey. Additionally, I'm not a fan of heads-up menus that list available food options but don't show any prices, forcing one to ask at the register, or feel locked into a choice regardless of budget when there's a line of people out-the-door behind you. Nonetheless, I'd go here again to try some other pastries and as a convenient spot to tag up with friends since there's ample parking and plenty of sidewalk to walk and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI work nearby and try to stop in for a coffee and pastry when I can. Love the atmosphere, location and service. But I will say that the prices are a bit high. For example, I ordered an iced coffee(black) and a pistacio muffin, having the rewards I got the iced coffee free. Love the rewards! My charge was $11.75. I understand prices nowadays are high for the majority of items and for various reasons and this puts a burdon on the business. But to charge nearly $12.00 for a muffin that I will guess wasnt made in house (might be wrong) is alarming. As a customer and supporter of local establishments I have to admit this is a turn off and will make me think twice next time I want to grab a coffee...
