Shenago Lounge — Restaurant in Lawrence

I found this place randomly years ago. Heading to the grocery store I needed a cocktail to deal with the masses. I pulled into the parking lot and walked through the door into what seemed like another world. It’s looks like just another sports themed dive bar. But witnessing the diversity of clientele that entered this place amazed me. Everyone was welcomed and welcomed with a smiling face. The staff behind the bar has never disappointed me. As busy as they get some nights. They still keep at smile on their face and banter accordingly. Watching games there is an absolute treat. Sunday chiefs games people bring in their favorite dishes for potluck. KU basketball games the owner at times will buy the bar pizza to snack on while the game plays in the background. I have meet some really interesting and like minded people there. People I consider family now. I thought of this place as an anomaly, unable to put my finger on it. There's a funky dive bar smell as soon as you walk in. The older red head bartender (7/13/24)was friendly and provided quick service but kept pushing us (and another patron) to have shots lol

We got 2 beers, gave her $10 ($2change) and had one more so we gave her $5 ($1 change) left her $3 tip and she followed us to the car saying we only left her $3 but beer is $4 🤔. We politely reminded her we had given her $15 told her the $3 was her tip, and she tried to argue but walked away shaking her head. Seriously?! Not a very welcoming bar. Patrons were great, bartender not so much. Whomever was working Sunday shift was not accepting of different people and badmouthed myself to other patrons. Will gladly take my and my clients' business elsewhere to another accepting bar like Louise's, Red Lyon's, etc. Only recommend this place if you're 40+ and have one basic drink you want to have all night, as they have a very limited liquor selection. It's a shame I thought this was going to be a neighborhood bar I would frequent. I guess I'll stick to...
