A Truly Unforgettable Dining Experience — Thanks to Jackson!
My visit to My Big Fat Greek Taverna was nothing short of exceptional, and that is entirely because of one person: Jackson, our server.
From the moment I walked in, Jackson brought an energy that completely elevated the experience. He greeted me with a warm smile, an easy confidence, and a genuine excitement that immediately set the tone for the evening. It felt like I wasn’t just dining at a restaurant—I was being welcomed into someone’s home. He had what I would call the true Greek spirit—philoxenia, or the love of strangers. And Jackson embodied that beautifully.
I ordered a gyro, and it was absolutely fantastic. The meat was tender and flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and wrapped in warm, soft pita bread with fresh vegetables and creamy tzatziki. It was one of the best gyros I’ve had in years. But honestly, it tasted even better because of the way Jackson introduced it. He didn’t just take my order—he guided me through the menu with passion and insight, pointing out house specialties and sharing personal favorites. He spoke with the kind of enthusiasm that makes you trust the recommendation immediately.
Throughout the meal, Jackson’s attention to detail was flawless. He checked in at just the right times, refilled drinks without being asked, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. He even threw in a few Greek phrases like “Kali orexi!” (Bon appétit!) and “Efharisto!” (Thank you), which made the experience feel even more authentic and special.
The most incredible part? Jackson made it feel like Greece had been brought straight to Dacula, Georgia. From his knowledge of the culture, to the way he described the dishes, to his lively spirit and warm hospitality—it felt like a little slice of the Mediterranean right here at home. For a moment, I forgot I was just a few minutes from my house. I might as well have been sitting at a seaside taverna in Santorini.
What stood out the most was that Jackson didn’t treat this like “just another table.” You could tell he genuinely cared that we had a great time. He brought energy, hospitality, humor, and professionalism—all while staying calm, collected, and personable. You really don’t get that kind of service every day.
To the management: Jackson is a huge asset to your team. He brings something rare to the table—literally and figuratively. I’ll absolutely be coming back, and I’ll be asking for Jackson by name.
If you’re reading this and considering where to eat—go here. And if Jackson is working, you’re in for a truly memorable night.
OPA! And thank...
Read moreMe and my hubby stopped in there a few weeks ago. There was not much seating so we did not stay and the atmosphere lighting was too bright. Hopefully, they will set up more tables and chairs in the back of the restaurant with the lighting dimmer. We were disappointed with the dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). They tasted like they were out of a can and were mushy. I’ve had stuffed Grape leaves in other Greek restaurants, and I have also made them myself, and I have eaten stuffed grape leaves out of a can and I know the difference. I hope they will read this and fix that recipe. Everything else was delicious. We also had spanakopita, the traditional Gyro and Greek lemon potatoes. My husband is planning on stopping by there this afternoon to pick up another order. We plan on ordering something different and I hope we will be pleased with everything. The couple that own the restaurant are very kind and caring. I hope and wish the best for their business to thrive.
So my husband went back to the restaurant, August 1 and got us dinner to go. He got the moussaka, which he loved and the lemon soup. I got the traditional Gyro with lamb and beef. I do not care for the french fries inside of the Gyro. The fries get soggy. I don’t see the sense of fries with it anyway because it’s too many carbohydrates. If the fries were on the side, then that will be OK. And next time I would get the Taziki on the side in a container when you get it to go. The owners are very ingratiating, and first and second time we went, they gave us an order of the Kormos, which is very good. We also got the baklava and that was excellent as well. Next time we go, we will dine in with them since they have extended their seating arrangement. I look forward to trying other entrées and appetizers...
Read moreFinally a restaurant worthy of spending my money at in Dacula! First off I am a retired personal chef and my husband is an excellent cook too, secondly, I lived in Greece for half a year, so I have very high standards of what I consider to be good Greek food. Based on the wonderful reviews this establishment has been receiving, we thought we would give it a try and we are so happy we did. Everything we ordered for our group of 3 was excellent, as in fresh, homemade, very flavorful with lots of use of aromatics (herbs, garlic, seasonings), all meats(pork, chicken, lamb, beef) were cooked to perfection, the spanakopita was the best I've had since living in Greece, the taziki was made with real Greek yogurt and was delicious, the lemon potatoes were yummy, the Greek style coffee was heaven, pita was soft and fluffy as it should be and finally the dessert was just like the delectable treats you would find in a bakery in Greece-fresh, not sickly sweet (like American desserts tend to be) and was topped with fresh, real cream (not the chemical fest that Cool Whip is). Finally the service was lovely, friendly and genuine-like how it is at family run Taverna's in Greece. Please give this place a try and support an independently owned, quality restaurant, you won't be...
