The Galloping Galette in Dacula opened its doors just about a month ago. If you are familiar with the culinary jewel called The Galloping Galette in Braselton, you already know this is a place worth its patronage.
TGG -as it is lovingly called - sets the standard for crepes and galettes in Northeast Georgia. Its owner and hosts Yannick and Viviane brings the French expertise in both flavors and hospitality to offer their guests an experience only TGG can offer. I can speak for many when I say that once you have had a TGG crepe, there is no going back to other inferior copies.
We have visited with TGG in Braselton for years now and was excited to finally step foot in TGG in Dacula. It did not disappoint. We went one surprisingly cold evening, and were embraced in a warm hug that is the simple, yet elegant dining space. There was a cozy alcove for customers who might need to wait for their table, but since we called to make a reservation before we came, we did not have to wait at all.
All of our appetizers were top-notch. Our party had the French Onion Soup, the salad, and the Quiche. We have had many French Onion soups before, but theirs was the best. I will never know what ingredients made it as divine as it was, but really, you just sit there and enjoy it all. The Quiche holds its own, the crust crumbles, while the egg filling satisfies in both its silky softness and its blend of salty sweetness. They also managed to elevate the salad with toasted nuts and their very own house-made dressing.
Our main courses were superb! The Galette Bolognese unified meat, tomato and herbs in a blend that sings in your palate. We were happily surprised with the Galette with beef medallions - good meat and a sear perfect for its size. The salmon that I had was the best in my opinion - the galette layered with cheese was the perfect pair for the bed of greens and the expertly grilled salmon, flaky and flavorful. It made for a unique dining experience to have Edith Piaf playing in the background with her anthem - Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien - as we were savoring our first bite.
We initially planned to cap the meal with crepes for dessert, but alas we were too full to order any more tonight. So we will definitely be back, for date nights, celebrations, visiting guests, and just about any other excuse we can come up with to savor what is undeniably among the best tastes that Dacula...
Read moreThis month's Dîner en Français (Dinner in French) at The Galloping Galette Dacula was absolutely amazing! The owners Vivane and her husband Yanique were super friendly and welcoming. Yanique is the "chef de cuisine" and the food and desserts that he prepares are mouth-watering delicious 😋. The restaurant specializes in "galettes", savory crêpe dishes made with buckwheat flour that are typical of the Brittany region in France, which is where Vivane is originally from. The menu also offers other traditional French dishes.
The couple mentioned that they don't usually speak French with their guests, and so this was a unique and fun experience for all of us!
The restaurant is in a historic building in Dacula, Georgia dating back to the early 1900s, and was the earliest bank mentioned in Dacula's history. It was also the Dacula post office during that time. The old vault is now the wine cellar housing an impressive selection of French wines.
Sitting inside this cozy dining room with exposed brick walls, eating authentic French food, and speaking French, while listening to Serge Gainsbourg and Charles Aznavour playing in the background made us feel like we were in France!
Merci beaucoup to The Galloping Galette team. This was totally worth the drive...
Read moreThis was our first time here and let me be the first to say this restaurant is chef's kiss. We were greeted with enthusiasm and friendliness. We experienced excellent service from a team of servers and were blessed to not only meet the very lovely owners, Vivianne & Yannick, but also met Chef John which turned quickly into the highlight of the evening. Having a husband who is a classically trained chef and a son that was currently in culinary school approve of ALL of their dishes is unheard of in my household. A common statement in our household is, "We live in a food desert." We are truly grateful for having this lovely addition to this part of Gwinnett County, we give massive credit to the chef and kitchen staff whom masterfully delivered fresh ingredients with detailed layers of flavor in every dish, from the first bite of our appetizers to the last bite of desserts. We will Definitely be back to enjoy this culinary...
