First off I want to get out of the way that the hate some people have given is not truthful. The terms some of the people giving bad reviews are slanderous and not good natured. I understand people have their own opinions and I respect that. Just wanted to get that out of the way. The food here was delectable. Portions were overflowing with abundance. The food itself was like a dream utopia! The beef brisket was divine and cooked to perfection. I have seen a behind the scenes look of this restaurant and the lengths they go to serve you a meal you will enjoy is deliciously over the top! The service was professional. The servers were well kept and laid back! The atmosphere is a barbecue smokehouse from the Carolinas. On the menu you can tell they pay tribute to their roots. The farmhouse barn style was overwhelming stunning. The entrance to the restaurant was extremely focused on a barn look. The arched ceilings and industrial feeling was extremely comfortable. More than enough room to serve parties of over 6 people. The walls were decorated to divine charm to make sure the people enjoying food were feeling happy in the restaurant. The artwork displayed is extremely creative. Give an artist anything these days and they make something unique and unusual. Over all this place is a must have on long trips and family excursions. Very close to the Magic Lantern Show, you can indulge in a meal and see a wonderful production by the neighboring businesses. "Displayed is a picture of a beef brisket and turkey dinner."

Eating at the Smokehouse BBQ & Brews was a really nice, rustic, country experience. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, with wall size photos of farm country barns and silos as well as plenty of antiquity ornaments lining the bar area, that kept me visually occupied while waiting for my meal. I was greeted warmly by the hostess and my waitress Morgan, who was just as sweet and accommodating as can be throughout my time there. I chose the corn chowder first then the smokehouse platter with brisket and smoked turkey, cole slaw, fries with a side of corn. My corn chowder was absolutely delicious! Quick to come out of the kitchen too! It was full of sweet corn, red peppers and seasoned perfectly. Soon after my meal came, brought by another very friendly waitress. Everything on my plate was incredible tasting. The smoked turkey was sweet, tender and had that perfect smokey flavor and smell. The cole slaw was sweet and creamy without being overly wet or saturated with mayo. My fries were well seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft centered. Yum!!! The brisket, was tender and filled with flavor but the turkey was the Star of the show!!! For dessert I ordered the mini whoopie pies to go. Morgan wrapped them up for me to share with my husband later and told me the story of how the name 'whoopie pie' came to be. Make sure you ask her to tell it to you when you get there! Overall I had a great lunch in a really fun atmosphere where I, as a solo diner, felt completely welcome and comfortable.

This review is tricky. We drove out of the way to find this place and we were very excited to try it. We waited quite a while to get seated, probably an hour after being told 45; minutes. That was okay because although we had a time limit, we weren't in a hurry. I loved the atmosphere, the vibe was great and I felt like the staff was hustling. We ordered, then tables that were seated after us got their food. Again, it happens, our waitress assured us it should be out soon. She checked again and said the kitchen needed to make a whole new batch of fried chicken. They were starting it now. We should have switched the order but we didn't. The manager did gift us a couple appetizers while we waited so I felt like they were trying but they just weren't organized well. They weren't clicking as a team that night. The food was good, prices were fair, it seemed like they were hustling, just not communicating well. That's why my review is tricky, I wanted to love the place, it's my kind of restaurant, but they have some kinks to work out before I can give them 5 stars. I ordered the smokehouse stacker to sample all the main meats on one sandwich and it was amazing! Hopefully it was just an off night, I'd be open to trying it again but the night we visited, they didn't bring their A game. That's the job of an honest reviewer, the good, the bag, and the ugly. Hopefully if we get back, we'll see the full potential.

APPRECIATION POST/REVIEW

Yesterday after we had our Easter lunch, I had used the restroom right before checking out and getting back on the road to head home. Once I had gotten home, I realized WHERE ARE MY THREE RINGS I HAD WORN TODAY?!?!… 3 hours later!!!! Mind you, one of them was a ring Cam had gotten me for Christmas!!!!… Then, it clicked… I left them above the sink in the bathroom after washing my hands 😩

The amount of thoughts and stress running through my head was overwhelming to say the least; causing one HECK OF A HEADACHE, literally. The only thing I could do was hope and pray someone turned them in or a worker came across them.

As I was driving over to my mom’s to visit family for the holiday after doing Easter baskets with Cam’s parents, I called the store I had visited. A very kind worker answered the phone and immediately was willing to help. She then had me call her back in a few minutes while she looked to see if they were either a) still there or b) someone turned them in. At this point, I’m thinking oh no… this could be good or bad, just because it wasn’t an immediate answer.

FORTUNATELY, THEY HAD THEM! ALL THREE! Someone had turned them in for me 🥹🙌🏼🙏🏼

Now, the other dilemma was getting them… being hours away makes it kind of hard to just drive back and get them… So this leads to another stressful situation. I had asked the worker if there was any way possible they’d be able to mail them to me and that I’d pay for them to mail them. Unfortunately, the manager wasn’t in so she told me she would give me a call tomorrow (today).

Fast forward to today… The manager calls me and is more than happy to mail them to me 🙌🏼🤍… completely speechless. All of it. From the lady who turned them in, to the worker I had first spoke with, and then finally speaking with the manger. I could’ve cried 😅

GOOD PEOPLE DO STILL EXIST; GOD IS SO GOOD!

I can’t seem to find the words or even describe how thankful I am right now for the kind lady who turned them in and the manager, Pam, at the Country Store located in Smokehouse BBQ and Brews. The food, service, and people are AMAZING!

I am a firm believer that good things return to those whom do good things. I am over the moon...

This was our second trip to Smokehouse BBQ & Brews at Plain & Fancy Farm. We were big supporters of the move to BBQ by Plain and Fancy back in 2017. The food continues to be of high quality but there are somethings that could use some tweaking. We started our meal with the corn fritters. They were crispy and tasty. The dipping sauce was a commercial package of Mrs. Butterworth's. Disappointing to say the least. This would have been a great place to use their Apple Butter BBQ Sauce. Unfortunately it wasn't available at this time. We both ordered the make your own brisket sandwich. The brisket was done perfectly. Tender and juicy with a great smoke ring. I ordered mine with the Horseradish American Cheese. after all what goes better with beef than horseradish. However, this particular cheese added nothing to the sandwich, save the $1.00. I ordered the french fries and my wife ordered the mashed potatoes. Both were great accompaniments. The mashed came with gravy on the side and were creamy and tasty. The fries were cooked perfectly, crunchy on the outside and a nice chewy center. We both ordered the White Horse and the Smoky BBQ sauces. The Smoky was great, it added a nice kick to the sandwich, without overpowering the brisket. The White Horse was disappointing. It is supposed to be a mayo sauce with horseradish. It was grainy, and the vinegar overpowered the all of the other ingredients. It added nothing to the brisket. this would have been the perfect place for their Carolina Mustard BBQ sauce. Again, it wasn't available at this time. Top it off with a couple of sodas and it was a good meal, just not a great meal.

If you like BBQ, check this place out the next time you are in...

Second review because Smokehouse absolutely deserves the props.

As long as we've lived in Lancaster, we'd been particularly partial to another BBQ restaurant in Mount Joy. I happened to search BBQ in Lancaster, and it was secondbon the list. The menu alone had me drooling.

Other than being glad it wasn't crowded because it would have been loud, what an incredible dining experience!!!

My wife had (and could only eat half of a half, it's that big) the Smoked Cuban sandwich and said it was incredible.

What drew my attention was the fried chicken in addition to ribs, and I was not disappointed. There was BBQ sauce on the table, but they were flavorful and perfect as is. The fried chicken is probably the best I may have ever had, and I've been to several fried chicken places in the South when I was in the service.

This may sound macabre, but the mashed potatoes were so good, better than mine, if I do say so, I had thought Smokehouse reincarnated my mother and had her make them.

My first and definitely not my last Troegenator (did I spell that correctly?) was the cap on my meal, it paired perfectly with everything.

Words can't express our gratitude for Isaac's professionalism, courtesy and attention. I hope we can have him take care of our next dinner there, which may not be too far off.

We...may not be driving to Mount Joy as often anymore...

UPDATE: another wonderful dining experience 8/4/2025. It may not be available as often or is as accessible as Royal Farms, but Smokehouse BBQ definitely serves the best fried chicken I've had since my mom last made it for us in the late 1970s.

Avid customers as long as...
