We visited last weekend for a golf getaway. This restaurant was the best surprise! The food is exquisite, prepared by dedicated professional chefs using ingredients largely sourced locally (and if you're from WA, you know how good our farm to table scene is!) The ingredients here are the absolute best. We must have gushed out loud because on the 2nd night, the chef came out to our table and talked to us at length about his passion for the food he prepares here. It is really 5-star great.
We had the roasted seasonal mushrooms appetizer and it was so good, we had it again the next night! Our first night we had the wild boar and bison meatloaf and the fresh pasta lasagna (made on-site). Incredible. Really, rich meaty flavors in the meatloaf with bold herb and spice support, balanced with mac 'n cheese fritters and perfectly cooked seasonal vegetables. The lasagna was tremendous, a pasta dish from which all the flavors came through in spades. You want to eat everything slowly but it's hard to do because the flavor profiles are deep and rich and complex, every bite to be savored as long as you can. Good luck!
Night #2 we treated ourselves to the tenderloin steak (because we LOVE a really good steak, and, after Night #1, we knew these guys would do it right). Served with a Roquefort demiglace and fresh gnocchi and seasonal vegetables resting on just enough truffle oil to turn the whole dish into something to remember for many, many years to come, this tenderloin was outstanding, perfectly cooked to order. Simply prepared (as a very good steak ought to be) but deep and complex in it's beefy flavors side by side with an excellent complementary supporting cast of side dishes.
I almost never order dessert at meals out because I usually eat plenty of good stuff during the meal but I knew this was a time to break rules. The seasonal creme brulee was superb and the affogato, simple, uber creamy and rich (premium vanilla ice cream with hot espresso over the top). Oh, yeah.
When you head up or over to Kahler Glen or Wenatchee State Park, take a break from dinner at home or hot dogs over the campfire and TREAT YOURSELF to this wonderful, somewhat hidden, culinary jewel nestled in the Washington Cascade mountains. You will be so happy you did! Serious...
Read moreFood and cocktails are consistent and solid in terms of quality. Our waitress although as attentive as they could be was seemingly spread quite thin. Guests arriving after us were served and finished their meals before we were served our dinners. Given that we we ran 30 mins late we called in advance to notify. Then upon arrival was told by the host that we could not be given an igloo gven there was a reservation at 8pm for the same igloo. One couple who arrived after us around 730pm sat in an igloo then moved inside. No other party arrived to occupy said igloo. For a 7pm arrival and 9pm close if two people are too much to handle in a two hour time frame then something is seriously askew in terms of resources and workflow let alone misleading us regarding the igloo. It was also noted in our reservation my husband is hard of hearing. We could hardly hear each other and the restaurant wasn't at capacity. If it wasn't for my husband's due diligence in flagging down waitstaff for drinks meals etc we would have been there much longer. As this wasn't already enough, our waitress packaged up my dessert to go after I had indicated we'd eat it there. After leaving a 25% tip no one so much as said a word as we were leaving. For two people dropping two hundred dollars we expect more, especially given it is over an hour for us to drive there each way. I could forgive the igloo if the rest of the evening went smoothly. Sadly it did not however we'll still likely be back as there at some point as there is only one decent dining establishment in Wenatchee. Next time however, we'll demand to prepay for the igloo and arrive early. I had tried to call to pay and guarantee the igloo earlier in the week only to be told we'd pay when we paid our check which I guess is there way of avoiding seating people outdoors whenever it suits them. If we left with another 75 dollars in our wallets, it would have been forgivable. Definitely not able to quickly forget at their...
Read moreI'll start with the good. Service was friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere was a little crazy with kids running up and down the hallway and stomping around (though not much the restaurant can do about that). Decor is kinda bland and didn't seem like much thought was put into the atmosphere.
Now the food. The Broccoli cheddar soup was really tasty (and honestly the meal started out good!). Then we got the mushrooms. Nothing horrible but very sweet almost overpowering the yummy flavor of the mushrooms. The rock shrimp were drenched in what tasted like Franks Red Hot. The vinegar was so strong you had to make sure not to enhale as you tried to eat them. And why would you cover up the delishiousness of rock shrimp with such a strong (and disgusting) sauce? They also resemble popcorn shrimp as they are all small chunks instead of whole.
Moving on to our main dishes...the pork cutlet was overcooked and came out looking more like a teriyaki katsu dish than something you'd find at a fine dinning restaurant (and would rather have sliced it on my plate than having it sliced up into small strips). The char on the veggies was super inconsistent. The carrots were almost raw and the broccoli was black.
The Red Snapper was cooked well, but flavor was nothing special. The "rice pilaf" tasted like jasmine rice with no other flavor.
Dessert we decided to pass on after we saw "seasonal fruit thing" on the menu. If you can't make it sound appetizing or give the diner an idea what you are selling, I'm scared to think what it tastes like.
Overall, we won't be back. For the price this meal was more of an insult than anything else (way...
