As a GM of a fine dining restaurant, I rarely leave negative reviews unless the experience is truly unacceptable and unfortunately, this was. I had planned an anniversary lunch with my wife after the Tulip Festival. OpenTable showed the restaurant as closed until mid-May, but both their website and Google listed them as open. When we arrived, they were operating normally. I use OpenTable regularly and could tell they had simply turned off online reservations to take walk-ins only. Which should have been notated on their website and OpenTable's.
We approached the host stand and were met by a frantic manager, Jen, who told us there would be a 20-minute wait. My wife made a lighthearted comment about an open table, and Jen snapped, “That table is reserved. Do you still want the reservation or not?” I had tried to make reservations days before of course we did! Her tone was unnecessarily rude and completely unprofessional, especially considering we were there to celebrate a special occasion.
After waiting, we received a text that our table was ready. When we returned, Jen seemed surprised, saying, “Oh, you came back!” She seated us at a cramped two-top shoved directly next to the server station, with visibly different chairs used by staff folding silverware. My seat was so close to the threshold that staff accidentally kicked the legs of my chair several times as they moved between the kitchen and dining room. I could hear every conversation coming from the kitchen!!
As a GM myself, I would never seat a guest, especially one celebrating a special occasion, next to a busy server station, let alone fail to offer accommodation when asked! I politely pointed to an empty four-top and asked if we could move, mentioning it was our anniversary. Jen rolled her eyes and said, “Unfortunately, this is all we have.” That was clearly false. Throughout our meal, several tables cleared and remained empty. We would have gladly waited for a proper table if given the option.
Service remained poor. Our server visited only four times once to greet us, once to take the order, once to deliver food, and once to drop dessert. After finishing, I waited over 10 minutes before finally getting up and asking Jen to run my card because no one ever returned to the table. Food took 45 minutes to arrive and, while decent, it could not make up for the lack of hospitality.
The only bright spot was Kevin, the busser, who was consistently attentive and professional! I wish he was on my team!
This experience left us feeling dismissed, unwelcome, and incredibly disappointed on what should have been a special day. Management needs to seriously reevaluate their standards of service...
Read moreWe were excited to try this place, especially since there were plenty of empty tables when we arrived and the atmosphere looks great. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations.
I ordered a pasta and a burger. We waited about 40 minutes for the food to come out, which was surprising given how empty the restaurant was. When the burger finally arrived, the meat was raw inside. I had to send it back and wait another 20-25 minutes for a new one. By that point, over an hour had gone by, and my wife and child had already finished their meals. I ended up taking mine to go.
To be fair, they did offer a free dessert as a gesture, which we appreciated. The manager checked in a couple of times, but our server didn’t seem very attentive throughout the meal.
As for the food itself, the pasta was bland and the burger wasn’t great. The sweet potato fries were probably the best part of the meal.
The atmosphere was actually really nice—both the indoor and outdoor seating areas were comfortable and well-designed. Parking was also easy.
Overall, we were disappointed. With faster service and better food, this place could have potential, but our visit...
Read moreTrellis Café is amazing! Overall experience was excellent. When we first got there we were greeted warmly and welcomed right in by the manager of the Café, Jen. They had choice seating inside or out on the patio. We sat outside on the patio since it was sunny outside. The view was incredible of Thanksgiving Point Gardens. We looked right down over the vast sloping lawns, gardens, trees, etc. It honestly felt like a café in rustic Europe. I've never eaten or been at a place in Utah that was so pretty. The prices were extremely reasonable, almost too reasonable for the quality of food (apprx $9/plate). My wife had a salad and I had a sandwich. The steak sandwich is amazing. We had Cassidy as a server and she was very helpful, friendly, and promptly took care of our every need. The busser also was always there when we needed water. We never had to ask for anything, they just anticipated it all and provided a perfect dining experience. We plan on returning often and will encourage all our friends to try it out too. If you are looking for great outdoor dining with a spectacular view and reasonable price (good for any budget), this is the...
