The food is OK, the service is poor! On the day I went, there were several sign near the cashier that they do not accept large bills. $50 and $100 were obvious, but they were also not accepting $20 bills. I ordered a small pizza and salad combo with a "can" drink. I asked if they had any water in the cooler, and the response I got was "I don't know. It's my first day back in 7 months." I pointed out to him that there was a whole case of water in the cooler behind him, and I was told that to upgrade from a can to a bottle of water was $.30. I offered my credit card to pay for the difference, but he refused. The dining area was extremely busy. We got the only open table. Do not go to this place for the ambience (or the service). The booth banquettes are totally sunken in. The walls are painted bright blue, and it looks as if they have been patched and repainted in spots with a totally different color blue. I had to wait 5+ minutes for my salad, since they ran out right before I ordered. It was given to me with no dressing, do I had to ask the (rude) cashier for a packet of dressing (direct from Restaurant Depot - Chef's Quality brand). Once our pizzas arrived, they were hot any very tasty. However, there were no red pepper shakers or parmesan cheese shakers on any of the tables or on the condiment area. So I had to go back to the (unpleasant) cashier and request yet another condiment. Apparently, there is only 1 red pepper shaker for a dining room with nearly 20 tables. So, all in all - the food is OK. Most is pre-prepared or packaged items they buy directly from Restaurant Depot (giardiniera, salad dressings, italian beef, etc). All of the refrigerators (both in the kitchen and for self service) are residential-use refrigerators that are being used for commercial use. But if you don't mind bad service and borderline dirty dining room, the food...
Read moreI can't say enough good things about the sandwich here. The Italian beef and cheese is where it's at. I imagine the pizza and Chicago dogs are good too, but I can't stop ordering the beef and cheese. The bread is not rock hard but isn't doughy either. It is the right texture for a sandwich like this, especially when you have au jus sauce to dip it in. It doesn't fall apart. The flavor of the sandwich is perfect. Put the giardiniera on it and it adds to the flavor with a touch of spice too. You won't need a side to go with the sandwich, it's pretty large and is an entire meal by itself. They do offer sides though if you are able to make it past the sandwich. This place should be on your must visit whether you live in the KC area or are just visiting. The staff is always friendly and service is pretty fast. I give it 5 stars for the staff, the food,...
Read moreWhat a joke that this place tries to compare to Chicago food! I was born and raised on the south side of Chicago I know what’s what😉 This place doesn’t compare by a far far long shot!! We tried the pizza when we first moved here and it was bland and I remember the husband saying the server was rude. That was 3 years ago. I went in recently to snag a beef or a hot dog real quick but it seemed like if I wasn’t buying something that was under a warming lamp it was a problem. Let’s start by when I walked in it was kinda dark and the cashier was being groped by the cook. I asked about a beef or a hot dog she said anything that wasn’t pre made was going to be a 15-20 minute wait. I looked at the cleanliness and decided it was best to just leave! If this was a place in Chicago they would have been out of business a...
