We stopped into La Lupita for breakfast today. We ordered homemade guacamole and Huevos ala Mexicana. Tortillas are homemade and SO delicious! We also loved the home cooked beans that came with breakfast. I took off one star because we couldn't find any water to purchase and because the Huevos ala Mexicana was 80 percent tomato and onion. Usually this dish is 80 percent egg and the remaining 20 percent onion, jalapeno, and tomato. Yeah, I'm a "gringa" but my Mexican boyfriend and I have been together for 11 years. I can whip up a mean Huevos Ala Mexicana myself. In all fairness the people working here were not Mexican so they might need more practice. 10 stars for the beans and tortillas. Customer service was good too You can purchase imported items in the store. They had things like Japanese peanuts, to habanero sauce, to tortilla makers. See photo below. This Mexican store is the most expensive of all I've been to in Tennessee. You can find Mexican markets in Maryville, Sweetwater, Athens, Cleveland, and Knoxville with lower prices.

Authentic food. This is the real deal. Being from Texas where they have large grocery stores dedicated to the Hispanic culture and cooking, this store and restaurant is a true diamond in East Tennessee for anyone who cooks and enjoys this style of culinary eats. The portions were very plentiful for the price and you never be upset about handmand tortillas. Plus they provide you three different salsas, chopped onion, and cilantro. Everyone is friendly, Very nice store, and excellent customer service.

Wow! Best burrito! Beans, guacamole, tomatoes, onion, lettuce, chili pepper. More than I can eat! Tastes very good. Wow! Ordered a plate of food(beef, huge cooked green pepper, avocado, cheese stick, onions, rice, beans). Got it home and started eating it. Very good! Then, WHAT?, a green tongue?, no, a cactus petal with stickers removed. Wife said it tasted bland. I sweated for twenty minutes after finishing this meal after putting green salsa on it. Yes!

AUTHENTIC AND AMAZING Mexican food!

Don't let the aesthetics or outward appearances fool or hindrance you from dining here. Restaurant services can be found on the furthest right hand entrance of the building, and on the left-hand side within the store. The laundry mat is just a perk.. and the best laundry mat found within Tennessee if not everywhere.

The dining style and services might be something you aren't accustomed to normally experiencing. Don't expect fast dining services for a meal that is made with care and compassion. Everything is cooked fresh and per order which takes time, so have patience and this dining experience will quickly become a favorite that's worth any wait.

Please note, if you want something other than water to drink, they will direct you to the coolers of bottled beverages along the wall. Unless otherwise posted feel free to sit yourself and grab your preferred beverage before you pick a table. I suggest walking around and checking out what they have to offer, along with the wide variety of beverage choices, while waiting for your food. It creates a very unique experience in of itself and only adds to the dining experience.

Being an AUTHENTIC Mexican restaurant the servers and staff are likely to be of a Spanish heritage and/or fluent in the language. There might be a language gap, but just like a gap in a tooth it can be viewed as fun and quirky instead of as an issue. So it's ok if your native tongue is primarily or solely English, I assure you this won't hindrance your ability to order or interact with others.

I recommend the La Lupita special for the first visits dish. It includes flank steak, shrimp, pablano pepper, tortilla wraps, a cheese (want to say goat but uncertain and don't want to give misinformation, this exact information is located on the menu) rice, beans, and all the other toppings you could normally expect to find in a Mexican dish, but the dish still includes SO MUCH MORE! Essentially this dish includes a portion of all major proteins found on other dishes in the menu and all minor garnishes used to perfect those dishes.

The Hispanic culture is a beautiful one with beautiful people and even better food, this place embodies all of those qualities. You will get to enjoy seeing the deep respected ties found within family, a taste and look into what foods are offered, and first hand experience into the hard work and love put into growing a local business. A restaurant that gives perspective into what community should look and feel like, as well as perspective into the kind of compassion that should be put into cooking every meal you find in...
