The spouse and I saw they were open so we decided to check them out. We didn't realize they were just about to close, and they greeted us like they were just opening. It wasn't until sometime after they took our drink order that it became apparent they were closing, so we insisted on getting our food to go. They insisted we stay, so we did.
The spouse ordered the Matador, I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs special. The 1/2 is closer to 3/4, and there's more meat on them than a lot of ribs I've had. The street corn is FABULOUS, and the beans are okay (but that's totally a Me Preference and not a reflection of their quality. This means more beans for those of you who love them).
The Matador was mostly devoured before I could even ask for a bite, so I'm going to say it was fantastic. I DID manage to steal some fries, though. I am pretty sure these folks don't know how to make mediocre food.
Please go here. But don't try to exploit their after-hours hospitality....
Read moreWe have had take out here twice. Both times I got a burrito. The first one was a barria with roast beef chunks in it. It was great! The second time I got a burrito with chicken in it and it also tasted great with smokey chicken in it, however I had two pretty large chicken bones in it. One I had taken a bite and noticed it while chewing (which grossed me out), I was hungry so I continued to eat the burrito despite being grossed out (I don't like chicken bones even for chicken wings). I had eaten around 3/4 the burrito when I was cutting a piece with my fork and I couldn't cut through it. It was another bone... I couldn't finish the burrito after that so that was disappointing. I'm sure they hand shred their chicken and it's easy to get bones but I will not be able to get chicken from here again...
Read moreNo air conditioning is a restaurant is wild. Decided to place a Togo order after entering the restaurant. Mac and cheese was great, ordered 2 burritos and a side of beans as well. Beans had zero flavor. Burrito number one was a brisket burrito that came with guacamole on the side, it was brown. Brisket was extremely fatty. Burrito 2 was a chicken burrito, the chicken was very dry. Overall that burrito was better then the brisket, but by no means impressive. The pricing of the burritos was decent, although the burritos were similar in size to a Taco Bell burrito. Hopefully it was just an off day for Johnny Gringo’s, as a buddy raved about the food. I’ll give them another try when I’m...
