Great for the entire family and all the different taste buds. I wanted BBq, my neice wanted texmex, and my uncle wanted something on the healthy side due to a recent heart attack. We all asked and received. I got the two meat and chose ribs and chicken. I got 4 nice size meaty, tender pork ribs, and 6 sliced peices of chicken breast. It came with a drink, 2 sides and the best roll I've had in my life. They had over 10 hot sides and 10 cold sides to choose from. I got pinto beans that had diced onions, sliced jalapeno pepper, diced stwed tomatoes. The bean "juice" was not water runny but not paste thick....it was perfect. I also chose their cheesey potatoes, which was good but a bid bland for my taste. The roll was somehow seasoned but not like red lobster or anything. My niece got texmex nachos. Chips with pintos, cheese and she chose diced pork sausage as her meat. She got her sourcream, guacamole, lettuce and jalapenos and pico de gallo on the side. The pico de gallo and lettuce were mixed together (great, and large enough it could have been a side salad). They were not stingy at all with their portions. She also wanted a roll and they did not charge me for it. My uncle got 2 portions of white chicken meat, corn on the cob, and side house salad. Again, not stingy at all with portions. As a matter of fact you scoop to your liking your own sides. My niece and I were able to share one portion of banna pudding. We stocked up on pickle slices, onions, peppers, grated cheese and butter from the side cold bar. Me and neicey got ice cream after we packed our left overs. They even had Hersey chocolate syrup! The sweet tea was perfectly sweetened. My niece got a bottle of orange cream soda at no extra cost. Oh, they also gave neicey a bag of chips even though she didn't order from the kids menu. Anything that has to be cooked to order only takes 5 or so minutes and they bring it to you. They also come by and get your tray, plates, etc. The staff is more than nice and accommodating. Very friendly but not fake. It wasn't cheap but we had enough food for each of us to bring home enough for lunch the next day. So if you think about it that way, it was actually not pricey at all. On Tuesdays or Thursdays kids eat free. They also have hamburgers made to order, french fries, etc. Literally a place for the entire family. Can't...
Read moreI used to go to Old House all the time 5 years ago when I lived close by. Something has changed for the worse since then. When we walked in, most of the booth tables were covered in plates and garbage. The ice cream machine had a mound, like 5 inches tall, of ice cream just piled up under the nozzle.
The food was beyond bland. Everything. I didn't know it was possible to make brisket without flavor, but they did. And something like a third of my brisket on my one meat plate was just a giant glob of fat covered in tiny brisket bits. The rest wasn't sliced at all, it was chopped, like they intended to put it on a sandwich. The "loaded" mashed potatoes, also completely devoid of flavor. BBQ place mac and cheese is rarely great, but they some how managed to be subpar on even that. The "spicy" BBQ sauce was runny tomato water, again with no flavor.
But then there was the worst example of poor service I have ever had at any restaurant. My son wanted a hamburger and fries. The picture of the burger and fries on the menu said it had cheese, but no other words on the picture. The picture showed toppings, but they also have a toppings bar out with pickles, onions, mustard, ketchup, etc. All he wanted was meat and bread. I told them no cheese and thought that was that.
It came covered in other toppings. He might could have picked those off, but it was literally drowning in mustard. I mean, pouring down the sides and onto the plate drowning. I asked them to make another patty, just the patty, and the manager refused. We had just spent almost 70 dollars for three people, waited half the meal for the burger to even show up, and it was not edible for him. What's the restaurant's meat cost for a hamburger patty? A couple of bucks? And the manager couldn't even muster the courage to come and tell me himself that he was going to stiff me on that.
Not only will I never go back, I have never been so motivated to write a negative review in...
Read moreI enjoyed Old House. It was authentic TX BBQ with good flavor. I had the 2 meat sandwich special w/2 sides. I also added 3 pork ribs and had green beans and Caesar salad for my 2 sides. My favorite meats were the 1) pork ribs followed by the 2) jalapeno sausage. The 2 meats I selected for my sandwich were brisket and jalapeno sausage. The brisket was just OK. Not much of a bark or smoke/seasoning flavor as I prefer for a "craft" BBQ brisket. It seems they maybe rushed the cook a bit and didn't follow the tried and true "low & slow" 225 method? Or give it much rub? But it was still legit and worth checking out! They had 3 different kinds of sauce to try if you wanted. Regular, spicy and smoky. I'm not a huge sauce guy but I still like to check it all out. They were good but honestly, I could not taste much difference between them. They also had a nice condiment station with all of the typical accoutrements which is good! I always like to have some white onions with my Q and a few jalapenos and pickles are always nice too! As for the sides, the green beans were good but just very standard canned and heated variety. The Cesar salad was excellent!! It had what tasted like a home-made dressing and was surprisingly good for a BBQ joint!
They also had beef ribs on the day I went but I did not try any. The counter guy told me they didn't always have them so maybe should have given those a try? There's always Next time! I'll be back to check...
